Engine Under Cover.

Anyone parting out that is getting rid of this piece?

Moved out of the garage to find it was somehow destroyed. Don't even know how that could happen with no damage to the front bumper.

caidoz Aug 10, 2012 04:17 PM

mines busted up too. They can be found online for sale new. Or you could do like I'm gonna do and buy a metal one.

RadRedR3 Aug 10, 2012 04:23 PM

Who makes the metal one? Speed bumps and my R3 don't mix. Mine's thrashed, an aluminum one sounds like a good plan to me. Thanks.

They make those? lol

I pulled to close to a curb once and busted the four screws off and then the wind from driving home split it in half. bought one from the mazda dealer for $175 had them install it. pretty expensive! an aluminum one would be awesome.

devlin95 Aug 10, 2012 05:17 PM

Exactly im not trying to spend that much

Mr_Pieper Aug 10, 2012 06:53 PM

I have broken 2 of these and bought them at the dealer for around $200 each. The metal one available is the GTSpec. It is almost twice as much. I believe RaceRoots sells them.

caidoz Aug 10, 2012 08:04 PM

I'm considering getting a sheet of aluminum and making one myself.

Hey if you do tell me how that goes, maybe you can make a DIY :naughty:

I have a friend with a 8 who had the GT one and he said if he has to take his off when he converts his fogs to hids he is gonna make me a template of the bottom part. He said he is sure there are parts on the factory plastic on that are not needed and could be trimmed off so the metal one wouldn't have to be as big. I'll keep you guys posted.

Sounds good, wont keep having to bust up the plastic OEM ones again.
Keep us updated!

I wouldn't use any alumimum ones.

It sounds like a deal but the problem is, if something hits it, instead of breaking the tray, it might break the head of the bolts off, and it's a Royal PITA get it back out.

I replaced my tray I think 4 yrs ago, has a crack on the side cuz I ran over a piece of tire, it's still holding. Bought a new piece from Mazda as backup. less than 200 bux shipped. not too bad I guess, if I didn't run that tire over I probably can keep it for another couple of years.

Nubs I zip tie mine up all the time . There is so much shit on the roads here there is no point in buying a new one till it completely falls apart.

devlin95 Aug 11, 2012 01:04 PM

^ I would zip tie mine up but the parts where the pins and screws go are completely gone!

nycgps Aug 11, 2012 01:26 PM

Sometimes, u just gotta be creative, duct tape, bolts, crazy glue ...

devlin95 Aug 11, 2012 01:42 PM

haha i know what you mean but, theres like a big hole in it and im concerned of water getting into it.

1.3_LittersOfFurry Aug 11, 2012 02:40 PM

I make my own hole to use zip ties with a Phillips screwdriver, that plastic is so cheap, takes no effort.

A big hole where? Except for the coils, intake and alt, there is really nothing to fear about a little water.

Ian Korgel Aug 11, 2012 02:43 PM

with wind speeds i found duct tape to be useles. maybe i wasnt using enough :)

A big hole towards the middle that runs to the front around the intake. and the whole front piece is gone literally haha

1.3_LittersOfFurry Aug 11, 2012 02:54 PM

HiFlite999 Aug 11, 2012 06:49 PM

rx8performance sells aluminum trays that are both lighter and far cheaper than GTSPEC

devlin95 Aug 11, 2012 07:06 PM

^Nice find! Maybe ill just punch some holes in my beat up one to keep it up for now and save up for an aluminum one for $160 :naughty: thats cheaper than oem!
