Engine stutter @ 7000

So I've tried searching, but can't seem to find my specific problem... I've seen similar problems, but mine doesn't involve any type of CEL, pushing me towards the belief that my issue does not deal with coils or spark plugs (changed my spark plugs 500 miles ago, which solved nothing)

This DOES NOT happen in gear, only while revving it in nuetral. But since I've added a bunch of aftermarket stuff (flywheel, intake, UD pulley), my engine simply put, *stutters* from a range of 6800-7500 RPM...

I hold down the gas pedal in nuetral, it goes all the way up too somewhere around 7000 RPM, then suddenly makes a clogging sound, then shoots up too 9000 RPM while I'm holding the gas down the whole time... Ironically enough the same problem doesn't occur if I rev it starting at 6000 RPM going too redline...

Anybody have any ideas at what my issue could possibly be?

solution

tell the dealer to run compression test on your car.....thats extactly what happened to my 8 and i got a brand new engine...bad compression is was causeing the clogging noise...believe me...i had the problem for about 5 months till my cousin at mazda figured it out... i have an intake and have modified several parts in my car and it doesnt change the fact that the compression was SHIT...and changing spark plugs is the first suggestion that those assholes a mazda told me...IT DOESN"T CHANGE A GOD DAMN THING..Lol...hope this helps

oops, didn't notice there was a issues & problems forum, could the moderator move this thread too there?

but anyway, I'm past warranty! How the hell am I going too get a brand new engine?

An losing compression is not an issue because it doesn't happen while driving under WOT.

I'm thinking it's either something electrical (maybe because it revs too fast?), or my MAF being dirty

Do the DIY for the MAF. It takes a screw driver and cleaner and 5 mins.

^^ what he said

Also, if it *Chokes* at around 6~7K rpm, your intake solenoid might be dirty. Get some very *good* injector cleaner like prestone or even better Redline, empty ur tank, put it in, fill it up, run the CRAP OUT OF THE Engine I mean 7+K rpm most of the time.

U'll be fine.

I dunno if I should've mentioned this before... But since I did all my modification too the NA 8 my car spits flames... When I realized that I did it ALOT, and suddenly 1 week later my engine rev's awkwardly... Even now it still does it, but it doesn't bother me because I don't need too floor it too 9K, just rev it between 7-9...

update: I've begun a 300 mile trip, and my engine gets a blinking CEL if I try too drive above 6000 RPM (ofcourse still making the same bogging sound effect)... I'm thinking the coils have gone out.... If anybody has any idea wtf is going wrong with my 8 I'd start smiling, but I wonder if I can even make the 300 mile drive home. I'm taking it too the dealership if I make it home though, I'm pretty sure the CEL is because of misfiring.

If nobody has any idea than let this thread fall too the bottom

nycgps 04-21-2007 12:20 AM

most likely misfire, yep it sounds like either ur coil, plugs, or even worst, the ecu is going.

Hmm ure in houston .... I thought that there are quite alot of rotor heads down there ?

You should be able to make it home just fine. but from your words it sounds like your engine needs some sort of compression checked.

Maybe its time to use some Synthetic Oil ? :P (if you havent done so)

flashing while going above 6K rpm .... 2 extra port opens at around 6250 rpm, and finally Aux port connects at 7250-ish rpm. .... anyway just have it check for compression.

Keef 04-21-2007 11:53 AM

cool... Mazda just dropped a whole new transmission shipped with oil, and now my engine blows...

I'm not under warranty... This is f-ing retarded.... If I have too pay for this it's hard too counteract that with a 170 tq engine... @ 56000 miles too...

Keef 04-21-2007 12:18 PM

It must be the coils, but I guess I should take it too the dealership too drain my wallet...

nycgps 04-21-2007 07:01 PM

if you re at 56K miles u shouldnt have to pay a penny. it should be covered under powertrain warranty.
