Engine Rotor Assembly
 

So I am in the process of building my motor and I am at the final assembly stage of the rear rotor. Looking at Renesis Engine Workshop Manual on Foxed.ca I have a question regarding the installation of the oil seal spring.

Looking at the first attached image of the workshop manual, the first item circled in red shows the rounded end of the spring in the rotation lock slot. The second Item circled in red says to assemble the spring with the round end 0-15mm away from the rotation lock slot. Is it me or is this contradictory? The second attached image shows the round end in the rotation lock slot and the flat end in the oil seal slot.

Any clarification is appreciated.

The first image shows the spring placement on the rotor only, with the rounded spring edge in the rotor retaining notch. The second image is showing the spring placement on the oil seal only, during assembly. The fourth image shows the springs final placement once the seal is installed into the rotor (and compressed) the spring circumference will change and the square end should fall into the seal notch.

So yes, final position should have the spring in the notches, but as assembled, the distance from the notch (on the oil seal, not the rotor) should be somewhere between 0-15mm. This addendum was not in the RX-7 manuals, it is a nice but still confusing addition in the RX-8 manual.

That second image is pretty confusing because it appears they are talking about the oil spring on rotor side especially since the image shows the rotation lock as being circular (like on the rotor) not like on the oil seal its self (has the two rectangular slots.) and they made note "identification color" which would be facing outward away from the rotor face.

If in the end the goal is to have both ends of the spring in their respective notches, wouldn't it just make sense to just insert the round end into the locking notch on the rotor side and place the oil seal with the locking notch over the flat side and then press the seal in place? That is what is shown in this . I saw you mentioned this is not in the rx7 manuals, Its just im still having trouble wrapping my head around the second image and its importance when the final assembly can be accomplished without that step.
