Engine Replacement

How does Mazda decide whether or not your RX8 qualifies for an engine replacement? I'm looking to buy a 2004 GS with a replaced engine. Only has 40K on it (188K original). However, I can get another 2004 (80K original) for $3000 cheaper. Can I bring the other 2004 to Mazda if I find seals/gaskets gone within the next year? Any help would be appreciated.

Get a compression test done on both cars and see which one has better compression. Buy said car. Engine replacements have a 12K mile, one yr warranty.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I will try and do that.

Go for the car with 80k miles on it no matter what, that thing has 108k less miles on the chassis. I don't see how in the world the one with 190k miles is 3k more than the one with 80k. Even if the one with 80k has a failed engine you could use that extra 3k you have to get another one.

What are the exact prices you are looking at? Still get a compression test on the car with 80k but I would not touch the 200k car unless it was dirt cheap and it sounds like it is not.

The 80k model turned out to be a scam. I'm gonna report him. Thanks for the help though. I did consider the km's on the chassis, but here in Canada there dozens and dozens of RX8's with 180k+ going for $8, 000+. I talked my guy down $1500, got an AEM intake, dual catback exhaust and TEIN shocks. I still feel good about this deal. They're giving me 2yrs/40k bumper-to-bumper.
