Engine Rebuild Question - Surface Rust on Rotors
 

So clearly, when I search "rusted rotors" on Google, brake questions come up and not engine rebuild ones. If you put in "rusted 'engine+rotors'" about 5 things come up and they're not even related - anyway!

I just purchased a new (used) 8 shell with a blown engine. My current Mazda reman from my rotted car (thanks Buffalo winters!) is going in as it's still in great shape, in the meantime I plan on rebuilding the spare motor for boost. This will be my first engine rebuild (after plenty of research). The housings don't look terrible (certainly not like the other teardown thread here) but do have some light chatter marks. I plan on having the housings resurfaced if I can find a local shop to do it. My main concern is the rotors though. The engine has been apart for some time and they have some light surface rust on them. Not as in the whole surface, but definitely in a couple spots. Are they still okay to use or are they basically trash? Can I have them resurfaced?

I assume this might be unexplored territory but I hope someone has answers. Also if resurfacing the housing isn't wise, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help!

if its light rust, meaning u can probably rub it off with scrotch brite then it's ok

if it's in the actual metal, then no, it's trash
