Engine + moisture?
 

Hi,

I have a vented CF hood and i have been using the engine cover to prevent rain splashing onto the engine to cause any damages...

but my JIC strut bars are on the way and with the front strut bar (unless i do some modifications to the cover), i cannot use the engine cover anymore....

i was just wondering which parts of the engine could not come in contact with water or is it just fine?

I don't think any rain water that gets in there should be a problem. You can't drive through a lake, but the small amount from rain shouldn't be a problem. Kind of like a cheap watch, water resistant, you can't dive in the pool, but washing your hands doesn't matter. :)

as long as the intake doesn't get immersed in water you'll be fine. the sensitive electrical stuff is potted ( coated ). Unless you park your car in a pond it'll have no problems whatsoever.

what about that circular shaped part(with holes) with coiled wires inside?

i dont know my parts but its near the middle of the engine bay.... looks like its not friendly with water?

I have hosed out my engine bay before with no issues but a general rule is that you keep the ignition system (coils, plug wires) and the battery dry. It isn't that much of an issue anymore like it was with old distributers. They used to now work until they dried out. You might not actually have any problems at all.

BIU, it sounds like your talking about the alternator (silver housing pully/belt on the front with copper wires inside). All the parts under the hood are waterproof, think about it, rain water gets in thru the fan/cooling system when driving in a down-pour. Vented hoods have been used on many cars for years, no problems.

The modern EFI systems are total waterproof.

As others have said, its fine as long as its not put UNDER water.

I clean the engine bay of my cars out once a year with a can of "Steam" degreaser, you spray the cleaner on everything under the hood, then use a hose to wash it off, never had any problems....

My rule of thumb is that low press. water is fine (rain, hose, buckt of water, ect) high pressure water is a no-no (pressure washer, hose with a spray nozle, ect).
