Engine Condition after 20,000 miles
 

While getting an alignment today my mechanic had a new toy to test out. Its a compression tester tool similar to the very popular one that plugs into laptops. Its a hand held and very basic but it gets the job done.

Anyways the results were 107,108,109 on the front rotor. 111,112,113 on the rear. The test was done at cranking speed and the car is an '07. This was done while the engine is cold, which is suppose to be less accurate than a warm engine. I also had the sensor pulled that kills fuel and spark.

While testing I noticed that the leading spark plug of my rear rotor was fouled quite bad. The leading spark plug on the front rotor was mostly fine. Also the stock ignition wire on the rear spark plug is quite loose. Not sure how it got that way. I also used mazda zoom zoom engine cleaner about a 1,000 miles ago.

The dealer replaced the spark plugs at the 5,000 mile mark. Supposedly the dealer is suppose to always replace the spark plugs after you buy it.

Good numbers, oh and my dealership replaces my plugs about every 6-8k miles under parts warranty. The plugs coils and wires keep fouling out and the dealership refuses to do any troubleshooting. So, I'll just keeping taking new plugs from them as long as they want to keep giving them to me. HAHA!

It gets to be a hassle though, I hate sitting around waiting for the car to get done. They should just give me 4 sets of plugs and let me be on my way, I can change them myself when they foul out! HEHE!

I'm hoping the Yukon coils help with the fouling problem. I'm also thinking about getting the fuel injectors flow adjusted to match each other.

On naturally aspirated Renesis, when the engine dies its usually the rear rotar right?

Was this tool made to test Rotary engines?

Yup. Guy made it himself. He's thinking about making a few and selling them. They are very basic and he's hoping to sell them for what it would cost for 2 compression tests at the dealer.

I know the numbers are comparitive to the one that plugs into a laptop, but I'm not sure if they would read exactly the same.

wow i went to the dealer last week and they said i wouldnt have to worry about plugs until i hit 75k miles... i had them changed not that long ago though. is it strange that my car smells diff after mazda does my oil change rather than when i do it?

Probably smells like brake cleaner from all the dripping oil they have to clean up ;)

I would highly recommend checking your spark plugs every 20,000 miles at least.
As soon as my name pops up on the waiting list I'll be installing the Yukon coils and another set of spark plugs. Coils and plugs seem to routinely go out on our cars. I'd treat it like brake pads, check them every now and then and if they get low replace them asap.
