Engine Being Replaced @ 71K - What Else Should I Do?

My 2005 RX-8 Touring A/T will be getting an engine replacement under the bonus 100K warranty this month. The new engine is at the dealership but I'm going to be ordering parts for additional component replacements to occur at the same time on a proactive basis.

Seals, gaskets for exhaust and intake, engine oil, and engine coolant will all be replaced at no charge.

Belts and hoses: All original -- no issues, just looking ahead. Quote for labor only is $350. That's too high, right? How many hours of labor should I pay for this? I'm have to pay for the parts on top of that.

Motor mounts: Supposedly shot. They say their normal labor cost for that is ~$230 but they're offering to do it for $65.50 since the engine will be out. Am I crazy or is that still rather high for that? I'm paying for these parts as well.

Water pump: No issues, just looking ahead. Labor is free of charge. Should I buy a new water pump at this point? Cost for part is around $130. Then I'd have a spare on hand with 71K miles on it.

Spark plugs are <1 year old, so I need not replace those. I will, however, replace the wires, which I did not replace at that time. I'm also on my original coils -- should I swap those too?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Purchase your own belts & hoses and yes you should have them changed since the engine will be out. $350 to change belts & hoses on a removed motor is a total rip off.
$100 is fair.

$65.50 for about 20 minutes of work is still bad, but not as bad as the above 'hose job'

Get a Mazmart waterpump

Also ask if they are going to reuse the spark plugs.

I just edited my original post to include info about the spark plugs -- I replaced them less than a year ago, so yes, they will be reusing them.

I also added a question about possibly swapping coils.

Thanks expo1 for your input!

Flywheels are usually replaced with new unless they are obviously in almost new condition. Oil pans/water pumps are new. Pulleys are 50/50 replaced. Eccentric shafts are usually reused. All seals/springs so on are new.

From the horses mouth.

I'd say replace your coils and wires. Also, for the water pump, I'd say get the Mazmart water pump.

Thanks 9krpmrx8 -- so, does that mean the replacement engine comes with a new water pump? If so, that answers my question and saves me the hassle of ordering a water pump only to discover later it's not needed.

Although I am tempted by the RE-medy Hi Flow Water Pump as recommended by expo1. However, 95% of my miles are highway, 50% are in metro traffic, and our summers are brutal here. And my car has never seen a track... My car is completely stock.

I will pay them no more than 1 hour of labor for everything.

I mean seriously they HAVE TO reinstall the Belts no matter what.

Engine mounts, well, i can replace it myself with just jack and jackstand ! so is it a difficult job ? nope. 65 bux sounds ok.

but dont pay them shit for replacing the belts.

Yes you get the updated pump with the plastic impeller. That quote is taken from Sleepy-Z who work at the reman plant.
