I would recommend getting a usb canscan ($120) to do the reset yourself, or even a scangaugeII ($170, has a LCD screen).
I got the 2006 Rx8 4days ago and I was wanting to get some statistics and useful information from the ECU. I am looking into learning about ECU reprogramming and I figure monitoring the data would be a good start.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on LaptopDyno
http://www.nology.com/laptopdyno.html

This software has a lot of featuress but its $369.75. Have you heard anything about it? Or would you say this software is overkill.

This will reset the entire PCM except the KAM which contains the sensor profiles amongst other things. You can reset it with the familiar procedure:

1) Turn the key to on
2) Depress the brake pedal rapidly 20 times in a row until the oil pressure gauge sweeps to halfway and back again.
1) The second method doesn't produce any result at all
2) Are those 2 procedures supposed to clear the CEL? (why does it work for some people and not for others?
3) In the first method, after the test appears, I see OFF. If I press the odo button more times I see more options, like on, full LCD light on, etc. What are those options for?

AFAIK the only two ways to clear a CEL for sure is either with a CAN odb2 reader like the canscan or scangauge2, or letting the ECU reset itself when it no longer sees the problem.

you might be able to reset it by disconnecting the batt, but I've never tried that method.

disconnecting the battery will clear the cel but if the problem is still there it will come back. you really need to get a reader or visit a autoparts store to pull the code. even if it's a loose gas cap it never hurts to know what it was.

Alright, Im having that same power problem, it seems like after the my car warms up or after ive been driving for awhile i loose ALOT of power, i dont notice it in first gear as much but second through sixth is a complete lose of power after 5k rpms.

I have the K&N Typhoon on the car, but becuase it was on the car when i bought it i cant just put the stock one back on! Should I changed the filter? and should i do all these ECU resets?

Mine also gets much louder and does the growling thing after 5k rpms with the power lose problem...how can i fix this?

thanks,
breck

This sounds like the classic clogged cat problem. You might want to visit a dealer and run the records to see if all of the latest TSB's and re-flashes have been performed. After they do the re-flash, reset your e-shaft profile as this has helped a few of us. You might even want to try the reset now just for the Hell of it.

So its the Cat? It just went out of warranty, damn, how much could this cost me? I did the reset with the odo meter. After the reset I noticed it wasnt as loud but its still loosing power!

Ive heard the Typhoon has a bad filter for the rx8s? should I change the filter to a normal K&N cone???

Its discouraging me because I was going to use my sweet tax return money for some good mods, but Im probably gunna have to give it to the dealership to fix my problem!

I need some good detailed advise, should I do the NVRAM and KAM resets I see what happens (it probably a good idea anyways), and is there other ECU/PCM resets I can do?

I appreciate the help guys, Im in love with my rotary and Im enjoying learning more and more about this car and motor, so any need to knows or helpfull tips are welcomed!

thanks again guys.

My advice on getting your CAT fixed out of warrenty? Go buy a Rotary Performance SUper cat - i think they are only 400 dollars? The dealer will *** rape you on the price for a new CAT.

Or you could research getting a CATless midpipe and maybe an O2 fooler solution? grand total for that wouldnt be more then 250-300 im assuming. (and i dont know if there are any "for sure" methods of O2 simulation on our car yet.)

Where you got the K&N Typhoon is bad from ? Source please.

I think the Manufacture has to cover emission Equipment for like what 100K miles ? for 10 yrs or something.

Im not so sure but I think its like that, check around the forum(search)

ny is exactly correct; emissions equipment is warrantied for 100K or 10 years, whichever is LONGER. BTW, if your cat went bad also be on the lookout for the companion problem of misfiring ignition coils.

Well I talked to the dealer today, I told them my problem and he hadnt ever heard of the breakdown of the cat like that, but he said if the cat does have a problem it can be fixed for free...but if the cats fine i will owe him between 50 and 300 bucks just for looking at it!

is the e-shaft reset t he same as the odo/pedal reset?

And the K&N question came from some thread replies i had read?

Resetting the ECU...

A kind-hearted contributor to this forum mentioned that I might have to reset my ECU if I unhook the battery. How does one go about resetting it?

Cheers!

hey guys. I tried the reset this morning on my 8 and took her out on the highway and did see a little improved performance. I would imagine if in any car it would be the AT.

So... Thread revival time. I've been reading through the thread and tried it on my car. I had to get rid of my catless midpipe and put in my stock one due to a fix-it ticket. Unfortunately, no matter how many times I do it, my CEL won't clear. I even tried it, drove it for 20 miles, tried again, and another 20 miles. Can someone tell me why?

I highly doubt that it's something else because it would blink if it was throwing two codes at once when I had my midpipe on.

by reseting odometer as MazdaManiac said '2) Turn the key to off and repeat step one', which mean it scan through several seting after that.. as EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) #15 and TeamRX8 #16 mentioned .. so should wait all for it to finish and then turn it off? or start the engine?

SHould one do these resets after any performance mod so that the ECU can "relearn" how best to manage the new config?

I just put a K&N Ver 2 on my 8 and got a check engine light... it will not shut off, but there is no difference in noise / feel / performance, etc. that I can detect. I am going to try the reset and the warm up / relearn procedure listed early in this thread to see if that helps....
