Ahh. That is not the "after repair" procedure. That is the confirmation procedure.
The official after repair procedure requires the WDS.
It is a good way to verify the repair of a CEL event, but normal driving will do the same thing.

Well that's all I've got, Man. The strange thing is that I have no cat and have been fine tuning my nitrous all day and STILL no CEL. Not even a blink. I'll take that. :)

What if this procedure does not clear your CEL? I performed this procedure a few days ago and my light is still on.... Are you sure it's supposed to remove an active CEL light?

Nope didnt work.. I still have the CEL. The only procedure that has worked is to disconnect the battery for an hour....

get a scanalyser or a canscan and read and clear the cel yourself. CEls do turn themselves of after a number of drive cycles withotu the problem re-occuring . unless it is really serious. if it doesnt go away you might want to findout what it is

A read of the following TSB says that brake pumping resets the NVRAM and I believe that the hold odometer button resets the KAM.

I'm sure everyone is sick of stupid questions but what exactly is the CEL light. What's the acronym stand for and what is the purpose of it. If it comes on when you put on a catless midpipe then why would it go away if you leave the midpipe on there and continue to have to catalytic conversion?

Check Engine Light - it will be illuminated if the PCM recognizes an error in one of the signals it gets from various sensors and stuff. It will also store a code (or multiple codes) that the dealer can use to diagnose the problem.

Nope shouldnt be, unless theres a misfire or some other type of problem then it'll be stored in the freeze frame data (data that is saved at the time of problem)

i dont know why you would want to reset your ECU tho (besides clearing codes) its got your adaptives saved in it. raadracer, your airbags are wired diffrently to another power source (or the info is saved somewhere else i forget) so if you disconnect the batt, it will not lose the airbag update.

Have you had the gas tank recall done? If so, you almost certainly have the latest PCM update. If you really want to know what it is, have the PCM scanned by someone with a CANbus scanner. Try AutoZone or one of those places, but makesure the scanner they use is CANbus-capable. Or purchase a sCANalyser setup for $250+USD.

When i reset my ecu does it still have the flash

Tutorial: In this forum (and in computerese generally), the term "flash" refers to the process of updating the PCM (aka, ECU) software by rewriting the firmware in a solid-state device in the PCM. Once the PCM is "flashed", the "flash" does not remain in the PCM.

Answer: When the PCM is "cleared", the basic software resident in a solid-state device in the PCM is unaffected.

How do I find out what recalls my car has had? I bought the car used and I took it to the dealer to get the visors replaced and the dealer I took it too (brand new dealer closer to house) said no because they had already been replaced and had all the recalls done? So I took my car to the dealer I bought it from and they replaced the visors and said the other dealer was full of shit about them being replaced before. So is there some dealer network or was the first dealer just being prickish?

Stick with any good Mazda dealer you find. There is a great disparity from one to another it seems.

There have only been 2 or 3 actual recalls on this car, but there have been several tens of service bulletins. To find out if there are any outstanding recalls on your car, call Mazda North American Operations at 800-222-5500 and ask them to check. You will need to provide your VIN. Keep in mind that most recalls are safety-related and dealers are bound to carry them out per the manufacturers agreement with the government. Service bulletins are not usually safety-related and dealers sometimes must be convinced that a particular issue exists before they will agree to effect repairs. Like I said, if you find a good dealer, stick with them.

You can check your VIN against the VINs in the bulletins to see which ones apply to your car and if you think you have any of the issues, print out the service bulletin and see your dealer.
