Drive-up Ramp for Oil Change
I've been using a pair of steel-based portable drive-up ramps to change the engine oil for all of my vehicles in between the annual shop-services. I seriously doubt I can drive up my RX-8 on these ramps because the front spoiler is way too low for this to happen.
What equipment do you guys use to change the oil on your RX-8? Do you know of any drive-up metal ramps that can do this or do you use two jacks instead? Please share your thots on this. Thanks! |
Jack up the passenger side, remove the front wheel, remove the drain plug, lower the passenger side so that all the oil drains from the pan. R&R the oil filter, jack up the car again, replace the drain plug, replace the wheel, lower the car and fill with oil. It's smart to use a jack stand for safety while you are under the car.

these plus jackstands. they're pricey, but worth it especially if: 1) you work on you car a lot 2) are lowered 3) have the MS body |

HTML is disabled for the DIY forum. You have to attach the pics.
BTW I use almost the same DIY ramps made from 2x10's. They are 8 feet long, 12" high. I'll post a picture when I get the car on them for HF cat installation next week. |
Thanks, DynamicDookie, are these Takata ramps made of steel? Are they safe?
|
hmm.. maybe i should get those things. i always drive up on 2x4s and use the supplied jack in our car.

hah I can beat you ALL!
I have the Fumoto Quick oil drain release plug and have discovered that when I chance my oil I do not need ramps or anything, just park the car turn the wheel ALL the way to the left and then there is plenty of room (my long arms help) to reach the drain valve and unhook/turn it PRESTO oil changed in 5 minutes! :-D |
I'll have to try that. Thanks!

I got tired of the sliding Ryno’s and also made my own. Easy to drive up and they stay put. These are not cheaper than Ryno ramps and are MUCH heavier but work much better for me. I got the idea from here. I added an extra 2 X 8 and wheels to mine.
