Doesn't this seem kind of pricey?

I got this in the mail from my dealership:

Oil Change: $31.41 (With Coupon)
  • Replace engine oil and Genuine Mazda oil filter
  • Full Circle Service Inspection

Tire Balance and Rotation: $32.41 (With Coupon)
  • Inspect tire wear
  • Check tire pressure, adjust as necessary
  • Balance four wheels
  • Rotate tires
  • Inspect brakes.

My car has 11,111 miles on it (okay, well not anymore, but it passed that number yesterday).

Just seems like I could go down the street and get my oil changed a lot cheaper, and then stop across the street at Discount Tire and get the tires rotated for like $8. The only reason I don't is b/c if anything goes wrong, Mazda can't say, "oh yeah - it's because you used Jiffy lube" or something like that.

What do you think - am I getting swindled based on my fear to go anywhere other than the dealership?

I knew I'd hear that! Almost pre-emptively called it. I would love to dim, but I live in an apt. complex and they'd have a FIT. I guess I could go to a friend's, but not this time around. I'm a busy man with big important things to do.

ok,
then yea the dealer is kinda pricey, note the tire rotation is way to high. but you should be able to trust them.

my dealer charges $25 for an oil change. however I pay $0 because of my service agreement :)

Those prices are inline with what most dealerships charge for such services. The tire service isn't overpriced because it's a rotation and balancing. If it were just a rotation it'd be about $10, which is what my dealership charges...they don't do balancing. Rotation + balancing costs about $30 at just about any reputable tire place you go to, i.e. Firestone, Goodyear, Lex Brodies.

When you purchase your vehicle, you can go to most tire shops (Discount, NTB) and purchase a rotation/balance and roadhazard replacement package, as long as they carry the brand of tires you have.

Wow. Does my car really need tire balancing at 11,000 miles??

If you have gone 11,000 without getting them rotated or balanced, there is a good chance that you have some damage like uneven wear. I try to rotate and balance mine every 6,000.

the service department here matches Wal Marts price of 18.88 or something like that so yeah your taking it with out KY my friend.

unpocoloco 02-12-2006 04:46 PM

lol :) okay, well good to hear that it's not just me thinking along those lines.
I've gotten my tires rotated before this. Balanced, I'm not sure.
