do they almost all warp?

I am dealing with another bad motor. Friends car, original engine. At 77,000 engine overheated, coolant in rotor housings. I have read here and the rest of the interweb that 90% of overheated rotaries are warped junk and need replaced.
I have also read here and on the interweb that 90% of overheated rotaries are not warped, the coolant seals failed and the engine can be rebuilt.

So, I don't know what to believe. What do you all believe about about this issue? Convince me one way or the other.

I will be pulling the motor apart and measuring it for warpage.

Well that 90% stat was probably pulled out of someone's ass so I would not put too much stock in it. The only way to know is to tear and down and start measuring. All else is just guessing and pointless.

Were the higher temps noticed immediately and the car shut down immediately? Or did the car drive for 20 miles with the needle pegged until it quit? Big difference in terms of how the hard parts in the engine will fare. You also need to figure out why it overheated before you rebuild it.

An other question almost as important: how long has it sat after the seal failure? The longer it sits the more opertunity the irons have to rust and flake chrome. If they were usable when it overheated then they might not be usable a few months later.

Listen to Harlan, I let my 13b from my rx7 set two years after coolant seal failure and nothing was reusable for rebuild.
Your other question I've overheated two rotary engines on one it warped the housings and the other we were able to reuse them, still within spec and engine is still running good to this day with @ 60k.
Housings are expensive my T2 housings were $1200.

An update on this overheated engine.
the rear iron and rear rotor housing are just out of spec. The rest of the engine is in good shape, other than lots of carbon. The bad rotor housing has some spark plug hole protrusion. The rear iron is borderline as is. It could be machined/lapped and nitrided. Fortunately, I happen to have a spare rotor housing and rear iron on hand. So, a rebuild kit is on the way.
