Do all rx8 make an airy blowing sound at idle?

Hi
My rx8 has been making a sort of airy blowing sound when you rev it and then a the revs drop back down.
It has been doing it for years but to my it sounds like there is a leak somewhere. Is this characteristic of the rotary engine?

Does anyone have a video of their engine sound around the exhasut manifold area?

Thanks

Antony

Mine sounds like this:

Have the exact same sound. Have searched for it for 2 years. It is somewhere in the intake manifold, but I cannot find it.

Had the dealership inspect it, they didn't find it. They did inform me that I was running about 5% leaner than normal, so air is getting in to the intake somewhere.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, I have always suspected vacuum leaks as the noise seems to get worse when the throttle closes.

If I go down a hill slowly with the engine on over run, you can hear the noise, but when the rpm drops to the level where the injectors kick back in, the noise stops.

I wonder if those little injectors in the photo have anything to do with it? They are the two little pipes sticking out on the middle bottom on the manifold.

Thanks

I have tried finding the leak with some throttle body cleaner but with no success.

Has anyone else had this issue, I am tempted just to cheat and raise the idle speed to get rid of the weak idle.

Thanks

Antony

Just an update with regards to the noise. Today the weather was warmer, I drove the car on the freeway/motorway with less than a quarter of a tank of fuel. After getting off the motorway the car felt low on power, with that noise being louder. When I filled back up with fuel the problem seemed to be much less severe.

Sounds like the fuel pump is on it way out?

Cheers

Antony
