DIY: A clutch pedal your foot will never slip off of.
So It's rainy season here in California, and I've noticed that when you have wet shoes, the clutch pedal becomes very slippery. This makes me worried that my foot will slip off the cluch completely, accidentally dropping my car into gear.
So I went to the hardware store and picked up some 3M safety grip tape, for $1.50 a foot. This is the same stuff they put on the deck of skateboards, and is basically sandpaper with a sticky backing. One foot of the stuff will be more then enough for our needs. Cut out some circles of the tape, and size them to the rubber bits on the clutch pedal, then just stick them on. http://isomerica.net/~fluffy/Ren/renclutch.jpg |
Interesting... Although the way I drive I actually let my foot slide on the pedal (as in, heel planted on the floor and let the clutch out slowly by sliding it)...

Interesting idea

that is awesome +1

interesting

Who drives with wet shoes?
We don't have rain here, but when I lived back east, I changed out of my wet shoes when I got in the car. Silly. |
Avoid Converse kind of sneakers in rain. They slip like crazy.
Thats what I do. |

The rubber bits are just about the size of a .45 shell casing though, thats what i used as a guide for cutting mine out. I used crappy scissors though, and thats why they aren't quite even (cutting out sandpaper was much harder then i had initially anticipated) |
my foot does slip a lot when it's wet out.
i think using a 3 hole punch would work. they'd be a lot smaller, but you don't necessarily need them to be the full size of the circles. you just need points that will cause friction. |

you must have a very big foot. Theres no way I could depress the clutch completely like that.
Great idea though.. Now that I think about it, I am definitely going to do this for my brake pedal. That's the one pedal I do NOT want my foot slipping off of... Good call on the .45 casing. I have a bunch of those lying around and some 200 grit... When cutting sandpaper you wanna go from the paper side with a sharp knife... Scissors don't work too well cost the "sand" side WILL destroy your cutting edge. |

I usually never slip off the clutch pedal. The only thing I do hate though is how my sneakers squeaks on the clutch pedal when wet...
|
i usually have an extra pair in the car for that reason. if not i just take off my shoes, no big deal.
good diy though! |
It is a big deal.
You can get a ticket here in Cal. for driving with out your shoe. Hell we all going to hell in a hand baskets. I smell the smoke now. |

Seriously though, my clutch is way too heavy to disengage it barefoot.. Not to mention that I would never be able to heel-toe if I actually had to do it with a ... toe  |
