Differences between 4 port ECU and 6 port ECU?

Hi all,

Does anyone know for sure if there are physical differences between the two units? i.e. do they have different Connectors etc.?

I'm assuming the electronics are different for controlling the differences between the two engines. But was hoping that the physical plugs between the two units are the same? (just with extra or less wires depending on the unit).

Also, would the manual 4 port ECU's (available in Europe) be different to the 4 port Auto transmissions?

Any help would be much appreciated - thanks!

Based on my experience of Ford Group and OEM ECUs in general, I think :
- the hardware is identical
- the firmware, or strategy, is identical
- the calibration (mapping) is different and enables / disables strategy modules specific to versions / markets.

Hope it helps,

F

Thanks - yeah, I've had a good look through the RX-8 wiring diagrams. As far as I can tell the units are the same, differences are that it looks like the Auto has a seperate controller as such (it's own small loom/connector).

And for the ECU it appears as though the units just have provision for pins to various modules/injectors/sensors etc.

Page 17 (and others) of the wiring diagram here: http://www.mymazdarotary.com/rx-8_on...nual/index.htm

But it would be good if someone on here knew for sure.

Thanks...

What are you planning to do? Your question is not an innocent one, is it?;)
