difference between 13b tip and manual

Ye, i plan on doing some mods but first off would like to change my 4 speed tiptronic transmission to either 5 or 6 speed manual. I have a 2004 rx8 and to my knowledge is about 198hp. The manual versions are over 230hp, what is the difference besides the transmission and what can i do to get my car up to manual standards before modifying?

eddybear 06-16-2008 09:46 PM

that depends, which ver u got (USDM, JDM.. etc)

renesis99 06-16-2008 09:48 PM

alz0rz 06-16-2008 09:56 PM

eddybear 06-16-2008 09:57 PM

if you have the 4AT you'd be better off trading.... a tranny swap is very extensive and not cheap. you'd spend less taking a loss on that car and buying a new one. not to mention i think the 4AT were the 4 port's where as the 6MT are all 6 port

eddybear 06-16-2008 10:20 PM

you'll need...

tranny
driveshaft
ecu
powerplant frame
clutch assembly
brake & clutch slave
clutch kit

oh.. and a 6port engine

since i live in a similar island setup, i'll assume u hav no trade in option, so all i can say is good luck

Trade in time.

eddybear 06-16-2008 11:22 PM

oh my did i forget ... a complete wiring harness?

yikes... almost sounding like a different vehicle.

before you look into this, think of finding places you can sell your parts to, thats the first step - recouping.

You do realize that the '04 AT had the "standard" engine vs. the "high power" engine? Even after changing the tranny, drive shaft, etc., you will still have the lower-power engine.

brakes, sway bars, rims etc, etc, etc as well if it is like in europe.
And a new differential with the proper final gear

I didn't realize we were allowing Bajans on this site :) . Just kidding, I'm from Trinidad originally myself. Best of luck with that if you decide to do it. I'll be happy to help.

Paul.

Maybe we should start an all Caribbean/West Indian thread. As a matter of fact, is there a section on the forum for people from that region?

Paul.

Thanx yall helped alot, i will definately take all this into consideration and explore my options. Glad to see some west indian peeps in here. I think i will do further research and consider buying a 6 port engine and box since trading in is not an option here, lol. Open to any other suggestions

eddybear 06-17-2008 06:24 PM

i'll stop you right there... dont consider any of that, the amount of dough you would have to throw down is much better spent going direct T/C or S/C & tuning.

in fact, check Phil 8... he has a 4AT SC i believe, look into what he's done he has gotten some great results of his.....
