Diff Oils Compared......

Comparison of 14 popular 75w90 differential oils.

Funded by Amsoil, but generally scientific in their tests.

Naturally, Amsoil comes out smelling like a gear-oiled rose, but it's good to see Mobil 1 and Redline's good performance, and how embarrassingly bad both Lucas and Royal Purple did.......

Cmon Amsoil, im mean yea ok, they funded the test and are expected to come out on top but DAMN. Over 30 points between them and the 2nd place finisher?? Get real.

Interesting comparo though. Looks like Mobil 1 and Castrol are solid bang for buck picks...according to this "study".

When a vendor does their own test - one should always be suspicious.

At my last servicing, I decided to go with AMSOIL in my diff and transmission and have been happy with the results.

A test is not a test if it's paid for by anyone with a vested interest in the outcome. It may be fine, it may be utter baloney. We'll never know.

And you have to make sure its not a 3rd party test paid for by an interested party...

Technically those are " Gear lubes compared", not really the same thing as dedicated diff oils like Kaaz etc. ;)

Wow, good find stealth. Frankly I'd not take this study as a literal translation because frankly I've been suspicious of amsoil's marketing for a long time. I was even thinking this evening how strange it is that I see people swearing up and down how much it works.

Royal Purple's max gear oil has not seen a lot of success around here. I've tried it in my own transmission since I was using RP in my engine at the time. Awful stuff. It worked fine for a while and then turned to crap. The study's viscosity loss reflects that in my case.

I just skimmed most of it but it looks like interesting stuff. Too bad the Eneos gear oil wasn't in there as I'm curious how it compares to redline.

I am using Mobil1 75w90 for my Rear diff.

MT-90 for tranny.

For some "strange" reason, I feel a bit smoother after the switch from RP to Mobil1 (for the rear)

dunno, butt dyno got me again >?

I never like Lucas products, for some reason, I keep on feeling that they're full of bull. thats just me. I know ppl use it and they're ok. hmm. oh well.
