Decarbonize the renesis using seafoam
 

Hey former RX-8 lovers I'm looking to clean my engine wit seafoam I have a renesis rotary in this beast. Does anyone out there know the proper procedure and exact components to disable. I've already done alot of search on it, but see little specifics on the renesis.

How many miles in your car? Just curious. Trying to find out how long or when they usually seafoamed their car at first.

Monchie I know on piston engines people generally do it every 20k miles or so, at leats that is what I have heard. I am at 30k miles now and I plan on seafoaming soon. A lot of people say it is useless and does nothing, but for $8 why not give it a shot.

For any newbies poking their heads into this thread, this post is a perfect example of why post count doesn't mean anything.

He is over 3,000 posts and still doesn't know the basics of this car, including seafoaming.

What do you mean by former lovers?
We are all current lovers of the RX8.

Oh, and just about all of us have the Renesis engine in our cars.
Only a select few have opted to put something else in it instead.

My engine is very new I plan on decarbonizing once a year, probly only 4,000 mi on her right now. Planning on keeping her as clean as possible.

Keep in mind that decarbing the engine with the cat still in place removes plenty of remaining lifespan from the cat. If you don't have a midpipe, then it is recommended that you remove or disconnect the cat for the decarb. Especially if you are doing it regularly.

Couldn't tell ya what I meant by former wasn't the word I wanted. O well, on topic now I did have a suspicion that everyone had the renesis by now but it wasn't clear. On methods of decarbonizing, who uses what: through the vacuum nipples, spark plugs, or air intake or whatever methods have been used with success.

Removing the cat was actually a big question I had few people include that in their threads, thank you. Any other disconnects to perform you would recommend.

Most RX-8s only get decarbed once in their lifespan, if at all, and typically these have plenty of other factors accelerating cat decay. It's also a pain to get under there and get it disconnected When you add to that how unbelievably loud it is to run without any sound muffling (>110db I believe), most don't disconnect it. If you have a midpipe, this obviously becomes a non-issue.

But no, the regular decarb process disconnects the other needed items (e-shaft sensor for example, killing fuel and spark).

So wat would you say is the best method

try using that DIY thats the best known on this site, i found it to be the most informative one

Seriously take into consideration what riwwp said about the noise level with no cat. If you live on some huge plot of land where your neighbors are a good distance away its not a problem. If your planning on doing this in a close neighborhood then your going to be hated by everyone that is home at that time lol.
