Cruise Control and navi screen install

Before you get angry i must say that i searched all the forum :)

i bought a 2006 rx8 6spd from local dealer few weeks ago. I am from Turkey
and mazda just started to sell rx8 in Turkey so there are no perivious versions or something like that.(they are selling in one package so you cant select options).

I want to add oem navi screen (there is no map for turkey right now) should i buy all of the system or only buyying the screen at the dash is enough.I want to use the screen for watching dvd and tv(aftermarket).

secondly i want to add cruise control to my car i read that perivious versions of ecu is cruise enabled but i have the latest version and thereis no other version i think. i asked to the mechanics at mazda if we can add cruise to my car but they don't know about this car yet.But they said me that my ecu is same with the north american one but not the europe becouse of our habitat is more like usa. However they are selling this car as 231 hp but mechanics say it is 246 hp so again no body knows anything :( i even not know my whp.
So i am asking you if i buy the cruise buttons can we make it work.

Thanks for your help

p.s. if you have any suggestions to a newbea please share.

The DIY at the link below may give you some idea of what you are facing for installing NAV and/or using it for DVD/TV. I don't have any idea if you can add cruise control. Maybe someone else can comment on that.

go here http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/ and ask abotu the cruise control fitting. ask for a gent name of blue adept. he has doen it but oterhs have as well. the basic point is if its turned on in the computer then you just have to fit the buttons and maybe run a wire. are you left hand or right hand drive?

MehkoR 02-14-2006 07:09 PM

my car is left hand drive.
So you are saying that there is a option in the diagnotics computer for turning on cruise avalibility.(i will read the other forum thanks for link). I am asking becouse mechanics at the mazda are not sure :) they haven't seen a rx8 before

and about nav screen i only want to use the oem screen for tv and dvd i am not trying to install all navi system becosue there is no gps map for Turkey at the moment. I want to install oem screen becouse i don't want to upset my car.
What can i say i love her i cant make anything make her ugly :)

and thank you for your answers again

no im saying if it has been left "on" in the computer (like it is in the american car) then all you need is the buttons etc. if its turned off then you can not do anything.

zoom44 02-14-2006 07:39 PM

the way to determine if its "on " or "off" would be to get the mechanics to plug in their "WDS" equiptment and tell you the pcm level you are on. If it should be a letter/number combination like "N3Z2ER000" if so its probably turned on. if its "N3J1Exxxx" then its probably turned off

zoom44 02-14-2006 07:40 PM

im goign to ask Rasputin(a member from Europe) to come in here

then what should i look for at computer(if you know)
or the only way to understand this is plugging the buttons and try :)

i told them to bring me cruise buttons but they said me that we will try if i bought them from USA :) as i said before they don't know anything about rx8. maybe buying a rx8 is a mistake in Turkey but i think i will solve my problems with your help as nobody in Turkey will help me soon :)

Today they said me i am running with the USA version Ecu. I will write down the version which is appear on diagnotics screen. May this show if cruise is on or off.

MehkoR 02-15-2006 07:19 AM

i am going to service today. i crossed my fingers :)

MehkoR 02-15-2006 03:53 PM

here my PCM version is N3J1-18881-L so isn't it american version

today my car reached 1000km and i changed my oil
they put 4 liter of 5 - 30 oil is it ok or too much?

Detrich 02-15-2006 03:56 PM

ur better off w/ an aftermarket dvd player unless u don't mind going thru hell to install a new dashboard and install the oem navi- even just for the screen. from everything i've read, i think u have to be insane to want to go thru all that work, but... good luck.

zoom44 02-15-2006 04:10 PM

that is the UK/Euro flash code. I beleive you have the level after it was turned off. eitehr Rasputin or BlueAdept will chime in here soon to verify

BlueAdept 02-15-2006 04:25 PM

I'm beginning to think that you're more or less out of luck unless you can get a non-european firmware version loaded... My instructions for fitting the actual buttons are here, but apply to a RHD car, have a look at the RX8France forum for LHD european cars...

MehkoR 02-15-2006 08:40 PM

is it possible to install non europe version to my car ?

zoom44 02-15-2006 09:20 PM

hmmm. \there might be a way if your service people are really nice. ill check something and get back to you.

MehkoR 02-16-2006 11:59 AM

i think they will do anything i want but may be they don't know how to.

is there any other difference between euro and american versions ?
are canzoomer and interceptor working for us?

maikelnait 02-17-2006 02:09 AM

Hi Mehkor and everyone,

My Name is Miguel, I live in Spain. I Have a '05 Rx8 and have fitted cruise control, only to find my PCM flash doesn't have it activated.

Check your VIN number, because '06 cars (At least where I live) DO get cruise control as a standard feature.

Thing is, I'm trying to geta a dealer to upload MY'06 flash in my '05. The first one I tried, said my car wouldn't be driveable or pass emissions :Eyecrazy: So I'm trying to get another one to do it. Maybe you can do the same thing. :)

People at the first dealer said MY'06 had changed some sensors and other stuff, so flashes are not compatible. What do you think?? Could it be true, or it is just a "standard" response to just deny any outside the box petitions??

Cheers

BlueAdept 02-17-2006 02:38 AM

It certainly has been a standard response... however it might also be true,.. I can't tell you if you should take the risk, but I would be VERY interested to know the results... and I would say that if they CAN upload the 06 flash, then they can probably downgrade it again... so in that case, it's probably not too much risk...

What's the worst that can happen??.. I guess the PCM could lock up and need to be replaced...

It's your decision, of course, but on behalf of the rest of us... please do it and find out!!!

maikelnait 02-17-2006 03:42 AM

I'm probably going to do it in a couple of weeks. The only major problem I'm facing is VIN numbers.

I've seen that Mazda uses diffrerent flashes for different MY cars. For example, tha P and R flashes do not apply to my car, even though the content may be the same. Maybe I won't be able to upload '06 flash BECAUSE it says '06, not because of major software or hardware problems.

Have a look here to see what I mean:

Rasputin 02-17-2006 06:50 AM

Hi MehkoR,

First of all, you need to find out if your RX8 is like a European or USA model. Or Japan. An easy way to find out would be to look at the Standard Power (4-port) version that is sold in Turkey : if it is an Automatic gearbox, it's not a European model, if it's a 5-speed Manual Transmission, it is a European version.

A If you car is a European version, you have 3 alternatives :
1) It's a pre-2005 or a 2005 model with a PCM reflash anterior to v37 : you're OK to buy and install Cruise Control buttons, and the system will work. It's my case.
2) It's a pre-2005 or a 2005 model with a PCM reflash version v37 or later : forget it, it won't work, the PCM won't recognise the CC buttons any more. And there is no way (up to now) to reflash an older PCM flash version.
3) It's a 2006 model : Cruise Control should be available as an option. Or soon.

B You're car is a US or Japan version :
A retrofit of the Cruise Control should work as this option is still available in US and Japan markets. But this should be confirmed by US members of this forum.

Note : the flash version (v37) I mention above corresponds to the WDS CD-ROM version.

Hope it helps,

Fabrice
