Confirmed; No Compression. Now what?
 

Car wouldn't start. Was eating coolant like there was no tomorrow. Had it towed into a shop and they confirmed it has no compression. Its a 2004 with 94,xxx miles, so I should be qualified for the 100,000 mile warranty with mazda right?? :)

another thing; I have the HKS single side exhaust along with esmeril coils and BHR wires/plugs. Will Mazda give me crap for having that?

I have the stock exhaust which I can switch to but the stock plugs/coils, I do not have.

i tink you should be streight wit warenty, Yes put as much stock back on

do you have your service records showing you followed the outlined maintenance schedule? If so, Mazda should consider you for a rebuild.

Get the Esmeril coils out of there asap, they could easily deny the warranty work based on that.
Doesn't that coil kit require you to rewire something? I can't remember if it's a straight plug & play system. I noticed you said you did not have stock coils but that will be a worth while expense ($175 or so) in order to get a rebuilt motor put in. Think how great your ROI is on that. ;)

You should be okay with the HKS exhaust as long as the catalytic converter has not been touched. If you're feeling productive, I'd throw the OEM exhaust back on there just to be safe

yup, that's usually a good start.

For the esmeril kit I had to cut the old wires and have them soldered into the esmeril coils. Also had the cat swithced out a while ago bakc to the stock unit. But just to be safe, ill switch the stock exhaust back on as well.

Guess ill be on the look for stock plugs/coils asap.

I do not have records of oil changes, never thought I'd need it. =/

Unfortunately due to the how many engine replacements Mazda had to do, they are now being a bit more critical as to who they give out replacements to. My guess is that asking for service records shows that the engine legitemately failed and wasn't abused or neglected (ie; never bothered to change the oil and ran the engine dry, etc)
I know it can be a pain but from Mazda's stand point, I can agree with the decision from a business perspective.

Did you do the oil changes yourself? Local mechanic? Dealership?
If you did the oil changes yourself, you could go through bank statements and find debit / credit card transactions at auto part stores that you could try and argue were incurred by purchasing oil and oil filters.
You CAN try and get the engine replaced without any records but it seems to be standard protocol these days for Mazda to request this information. You could take the chance though, you really have nohting to lose here.

The Racing Beat intake will be a hit or miss but if you have a stock box I'd recommend it as some dealerships are VERY particular about modifications. I'd hate to see someone have an engine claim denied becuase of an intake that can easily be swapped out in an hour (while drinking beer)
I know this means more work for you but again, it should be worth the effort.


The Esmeril kit sounds like it could be an issue to take out but I'm sure none of that is non-reversible.

No its all do-able in less than a days work, just annoying. Moving into a new place 5 hours from where I am now, and with school starting in 8 days its just going to take some time which I might not be able to put in right now. Glad my school and apartment are all within walking distance.

I would resolder the original harnesses back in and electrical tape the crap out of them. You do not want Mazda to notice you modified your engine harness. They can easily use that as justification for denying you the warranty. Definitely go back in with as much stock as possible in the engine bay. The exhaust I wouldn't be too worried about unless you had removed the catalytic converter.

sucks. majority of the oil changes were done by myself. the others that weren't were done at shops which I am sure I could get the papers for. we'll see

*sigh*

this is probably the reason why when I go Aftermarket stuff, I usually want as much "plug and play" as possible.

cutting wires/harness is just not my taste.

I spun a rod bearing with the original engine in my Vette and didnt have any of the service records since I do my own oil changes. My wife however would take her car to have the oil changed once in a while....... MS paint FTW! Paid like $1400 for that extended warranty.....it was well worth it.
