Compression test results. Boo..
 

Well, the past few weeks ive noticed the car had a lack of power, and I figured it was needing MSP16 performed on it, seeing as how I live in florida and the ambient temps are 80+ easily right now.

I take it to Mazda to have the reflash done, as it was listed as being open, but a customer pay item, and the tech comes back with a printout (actually one of the few competent techs at the dealers I'd say) and shows me IDS is saying it has the most up to date PCM reflash available.

The tech said since I was quoted a price for the reflash, and the reflash was done already, if I wanted they could do a compression test and only pay for that. So, I figured why not.

Tech comes back with this =( I know its failing, but for those of you that have seen/dealt with failing MSP's before, any estimations on how bad it is or how long?

Car has very little power when I go WOT, but it doesn't have any hard starting problems yet..

Ive been considering what rebuilder i'm going with, or maybe picking up a Jspec if I can source one that has decent compression.

Pretty low across the board, any longevity or estimates on it?

do you have any hot start issues? how many miles are on the engine? those numbers are pretty low.
and there is no real way to know how long it will or will not last, it could keep chugging along till it cant any more or just stop all together. If I had to guess not long :(

I should read more. what do you mean by jspec?

With a starter that fast, I'd guess you won't have any hot start problems for another 20,000ish miles.

Sorry, I guess thats more of a term used on the 7 boards. Pretty much just means an engine out of an eight from japan, they have started to trickle across in the past few years now like the older 13B's, etc.

typically they are lower mileage since Japanese cars don't have very many miles on them, and aren't bank breaking expensive. I'd have to get compression readings before i'd buy one though.

And no, no hot start problems at all. The car just has pretty much zero power.

9K seemed to think the lack of hot start issues is because my starter is pretty good, I'm inclined to believe him.

Toastaroni, the question is, is it your intent to rebuild it or run it into the ground? An often overooked reality here. Many remans were run into the ground before they were rebuilt, hence why they are more miss than hit long term. Running it into the ground pretty much ruins your chance of having a successful, long term rebuild. If you can't afford new rotors, rotor housings, and so on, then rebuild it sooner rather than later.

I'm not planning on running it into the ground. I'd rather fix it now before it decides to throw a seal and then due to the lack of a peripheral port screw even more up =(.

It's getting a rebuild at this point. I'll just have to use my FC in the meantime...Which, I don't want to do, given that it has less miles than my eight :yelrotflm

When would you suggest getting one rebuilt? Is Mazda's minimum engine specs good?

I just got my 2008 with 48,000 miles on it tested:

750, 730, 740 @ 258RPM
750, 740, 750 @ 265RPM

It has about 9 more months left on the 8 year warranty, and I would be surprised if it is under spec by then.
