hahaha, the only thing I would call a cold air intake is the AEM one. There is also the Racing beat with its 'ram air' setup, as well as other that use a 'scoop' to pick up air from the mouth of the car.

The would all be about the same dificulty to install, some need the bumper removed, but all are basic hand-tool jobs.

go to the aftermarket sub forum and read one of the million threads on air intakes

How do you figure the AEM is the only "cold" one. The racing beat (with intake) one draws cooler air from the front of the car which would make it a cold air..right? The AEM does the same with, just not with a seperate intake, but a longer tube .

I did mention that the racing beat and well as others, use a 'scoop' to bring in fresh outside air, that is similar to a cold air intake, but IMO to be a cold air intake there has to be a tube that runs outside the engine bay (into the front bumper, into a wheel well, fender, ect) with a filter on the end, so its pulling the fresh air thru a filter, then a long tube.

Im not going to say what works better, that is just how I view a true CAI (cold air intake) vs an intake with a fresh/cold air duct.

I personaly think the racing beat setup is the best ive seen, from anyone (greddy, HKS, fuji, reA, ect)

Speaking of that though, I think greddys is also a CAI, doesnt it run a pipe across the mount into the pass side oil cooler intake (since the JDM rx8 only has 1 oil cooler) maby im thinking of a differnt company.

well i think im a good reference....ive had 2 seperate intakes on my car...i started with the stock, then to the Kand N which was loud and and thats ITTTTTT.....no power at 6000 and up and thats what all other intakes are gonna feel like...i felt the stock airbox was a better feeling as far as power.....now i have the racing beat REVi ram air and its the best of both worlds....a little extra sound at higher rpm but still sounds like the mazda it should be and a little extra umphhh. as for installation it was rough...i didnt do it but the ram air tube in the nose took about 2 hours on its own....but hey its worth it....its a kick ass system. racing beat knows their stuff stick with them.
