coil change...again...but i think i screwed something up...
so i decided to change my coils again just as a preventative for the nitrous, since i had a spare new set laying around. anyways as i pulled the plugs off. that little metal piece inside the plug went flying, i have no idea how or why. and i guess my biggest concern is that this will prevent the car from running. is this needed? i never even noticed them before, but it's in all the other plugs. have i managed to some how screw myself over by being to careful? lmk because im not putting the coils in and putting the airbox back in until i know that im not going to have to get new plugs..again.

Are you talking about the metal terminal inside the wire boots?
yep. just flew right out as i took the wire off
time for new wires!!!! that happened to atilla here at my house, good thing he was replacing the wires
^yup.. new wire is needed.
You won't have good (if any) electrical contact with the coil. Check the "RX-8 Parts For Sale/Wanted" thread for used wires if you're on a tight budget. Many people have upgraded their wires, especially with the BHR coil package. |
well thats just great. will the car run at all? like to the shop so i can get some new ones?
yeah ur better off installing them urself, try to look for some asap....WAY easy to install
How much of the terminal broke off?
Can you attach a pic? |
^the little metal thingy on the inside of the wire came out...u know the one that connects to the coil via the wire
yeah what he said. and i know but i was just going to go pick some up...damnit. we are doing the nitrous on friday...and if i order from online i wont get them in time
^^Right... I didn't know if the whole terminal came off the wire or just a piece of the terminal broke off.
nope, the whole thing. since ive just been running oem from mazda... i dont know if i can do this, but can i just go to autozone and pick up some magnecor wires and pop them on in the morning?
If it just came off the wire, is it possible to "re-crimp" the terminal to the wire for now?
are you suggesting i pry it open, and then clamp it back down? just to get the car running? i mean i have a spare car, i just want to put them on on friday, while i do the nitrous install, so i can drive...after the nitrous install.
^If you can... yeah.
Its just temporarily until you get replacement wires. Just make sure the crimp (re-crimp) is secured. |
thats actually a good idea. i would just rather do it with the nitrous, because it'd be ALOT easier. so autozone doesnt carry wires that'll work?

damnit. i wonder if any vendors can ship it to me tmro and have it by friday. because that idea... not gonna work..not because i cant crimp it...but becasue when it fell off, it fell into my engine bay..and i just spent 20 minutes looking for it. and cant find it.
You can ask Charles R Hill and see if he can ship it overnight.
Do you have anyone local that can lend you a wire while you do your nitrous install so you're not rushing the shipping? Not sure what the cost difference will be to ship wires overnight to you. |
i'll ask him since i bought the nitrous kit from him. and nope. there is only one local online, and i've never even met up with her. lol im asking fluid and Charles both. hopefully one will be able to help me.
