Clutch - Rubbing sound

Hopefully a non-issue but I thought I would ask to make sure. I hear a low, rubbing, grinding sound when in neutral with the clutch out. When I put the clutch in, it stops. I know this will be vague, but it sounds like dragging something plastic across asphalt, muffled.

Anything wrong? My car also squeaks when I brake and accelerate hard.

2006 RX-8 Shinka.

The noise is the transmission gears aimlessly spinning inside the gearbox while in neutral. When you push the clutch in, the input shaft stops spinning, the gears stop spinning and the noise stops. It's normal.

The squeak noise....?

the squeak noise could be a the clutch switch or the pedal going bad... a tsb is on the first.

When I first heard it I thought it was the throw out bearing, but everyone said it was normal. :)

I would seriously consider inspecting the pedal assembly for cracks if you are nearing 50K miles, even with the factory clutch. I also have my opinions on the accuracy of the pedal switches being bad and requiring the TSB, none of which Mazda would want to hear.

The rollover noise isn't caused by the shifter and if you are using an AFE Short Shifter the noise is amplified in the cabin a bit.

14k miles, almost exactly.
