Changing the clutch on a '05 - needle bearing and seal quesiton

Hey guys!

I need a little insight please. We're changing the clutch and flywheel this weekend and I have a quesiton about removing the needle bearing and seal. I know that there are small tools to remove them but I was wondering if they can be removed without them?

Popping the seal out doesn't appear to be an issue but I was concerned about the bearing. Will the bearing slide out with finger pressue? Can a screw driver be used to slide the bearing out?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

You need a blind hole bearing puller for sure. Harbor Freight has the one.

There is data on the DIY for a clutch install. I modified the harbor freight 3 prong, but some of the stores have the right one. You cannot pull it out yourself.

Make sure the bearings stay in the freaking race when you pull the alignment tool out or life will suck.

Thnaks guys for the information. We purchased the puller and installer from Mazdatrix yesterday and practiced on the spare motor we have in the garage. They both worked perfectly. Nice pieces. Now for the weekend....

Just curious, what is a needle bearing and seal. where is it located.

Well, the clutch change out went pretty smoothly and the car is back on the track. Now that we're done I do have the two special tools that we purchased from Mazdatrix in Signal Hill. We paid $115 for both the bearing puller and the bearing and seal installer/punch and would like to sell the two together for only $95.00 plus shipping. You'd save $20 for the set.

I'm having trouble uploading photos for some reason but can send them to you if you'd like to see the tools.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you again,

Eric

otherwise known as the pilot bearing, it sits in the end of the eccentric shaft, and supports the input shaft of the transmission
