How do you bleed the clutch?

How do you bleed the clutch?

Ok, I just installed a lightened flywheel and clutch and when I got on the highway my clutch pedal stuck to the floor when I decided to see if it made a difference in speed. So far what I understand is you take the cap off the slave cylinder bleeding valve, have someone step on the clutch fully 3 or 4 times then hold it, then u loosen the nut on the valve till the air comes out and tighten after and repeat until no more air comes out.... Is that right? anyone know any tips to make this easier?

Bleeding the slave cylinder is the same steps as bleeding your brakes.
Only difference is the slave cylinder is a PITA to reach.
Depending on you height, you might have to lay onto of the engine just to reach it.

I've found it easiest to approach from the front and actually lay across the front of the car, looking down into that area. Can slide right hand down in there then. Some people try from underneath, but I found that difficult.

do you have to put a hose on the bleeding valve with a cup with clutch fluid or can you just bleed the thing with a rag to catch the drip?

It'll be more than a drip bud... so you need a container to catch it in.

It somewhat worked and felt a little stiffer but the pedal stuck a little when i floored in on the highway in 2nd gear....

i'm having exactly the same problem. i put in a lightened fly wheel and a stage 3 clutch. my pedal is doing exactly the same thing. did you ever find a solution to it?

Bleeding the clutch is a PIA, having the proper tools helps. I have installed a speed bleeder in my clutch slave. But really you just need to take your time and follow the factory service manual procedure.

For all of you that think bleeding a brake system or clutch system is a pain the ***. It does'nt have to be. In fact it very simple.
First you need to have a spare cap for the clutch/brake master cylinder reservoir.
Second go and buy a car tyre value that you can mount into the spare cap.
Take out the rubber seal from inside the spare cap and cut it out so there is a decent size hole in the center of it
Drill a hole and mount the valve into the spare cap.
Place the rubber seal back into the spare cap.
Now when you want to bleed the brake/clutch system, you take off the original cap and place your modified spare cap on the master cylinder.
Now you can use a air pump to pressure bleed your system and you don't have to touch the brake or clutch pedal at all.
This way works every time with out fail. Its easiest to do with two people, one opening the bleed nipple and one operating the air pump and keeping an eye on the level of fluid in the reservoir.
The only thing you have to make sure of is that the modified spare cap seals well on the reservoir and doesn't leak air.

Great Idea, I may have to try that. The RX-8 is the only car I have had and issue doing this on. I have done my RX-8 and plenty of others and sometimes it is easy and simple to do and sometimes it just won't bleed at all at first.

That is a good idea! I already have the air valve so I'll see if I can locate a new cap. Thanks for the tip!
