CEL light flash after engine replacement

I know its not the first tread on this issue but this is an angle I was unable to find in the other treads.

My car is almost stock, I have the MazSport Ignition coils and Racing Beat exhaust.
I had my engine replaced 2 days ago, picked it up at the dealer and the first thing I saw was that the "check engine light" was on.

I talked to the dealer straight away and was told it was a misfire code from the engine and blamed my Mazsport ignition coils. I told them I didnt have a CEL light before the engine replacement so why should the problem be the coils? ...

Have anyone else had a problem with the Mazsport ignition coils giving a misfire code? It quite annoying looking at the check engine light flashing all the time.

But my dealer told me it was safe to drive until they could have a look at it again... and thats almost a month from now.. I dont know if i like Mazda anymore.. :icon_no2:

misfires happen. thats a momentary flashing cel. when hey set a solid code you have a problem. if it is blinking all the time that means DONT DRIVE THE CAR. verify the only code is for misfire then check your plugs and coils.

make sure all teh wires are on snug etc. sometimes they miss little things during replacements

why was your engine replaced

chances are the dealer's tech was having a brain fart and forgot to reset the e-shaft profile. turn your ignition key on and press the brake pedal twenty times within 8 seconds. your oil pressure guage should sweep to indicate a reset. turn the key off and restart the engine and see if that takes care of the flashing MIL.

Thanks for the information, ill give it a try rotaryman25.
The CEL is momentary flashing while driving and stay lit afterwards.

Ill try and reset everything and see if it comes back.

My engine was replaced because of bad compression :eyetwitch

Did they give you any trouble over the Mazsport Ignition? Those coils require the dwell settings to be altered. Have you done that?

lomnex 12-10-2008 08:31 AM

The dealer didnt care about the Mazsport Ignition coils and mounted them back onto the new engine for me. I havent altered any settings, I only did what the manual told me to.

How can I alter the dwell settings?

Yeah try resetting the computer and make sure all wires are snug it is easy to forget something...
