Cel

I have a check engine light for an o2 sensor (bank 2, sensor 1). Is this the sensor after the cat? If it is, would a clogged cat cause this CEL? I hope it is because this would be the perfect reason to finally purchase the Agency Power exhaust.

Anyone know?

What was the exact code? Two months ago I had a P0037 which is for the REAR O2 sensor. Got a new one and that fixed the issue.

You do realize that with the AP mid-pipe you will get a CEL?

(new to the forum)

Hello there,

I just bought a used 2004 Rx-8...

My CEL came up the first time and i've gone back to the dealership to have it inspected. They documented the error code is P2079, which I found in the forum saying that the engine is running too rich and check A/F feedback system (what does it mean?). They (the dealership) tested the engine, and cant seem to find any problem with it. So they did a reset and and drove home.

2 days later, the CEL comes back up again. I believe it's due to the same error. Any idea y is this happening?

I suspect that it's becuz the inside condition of the car is terribly hot (due to the black green exterior).

On my previous service with the dealership, they have also diagnosed that the HVAC control unit has some problem and has order a new replacement for it, which I'll be bringing my car to them on Monday (today)... The other thing is that, they claimed to have re-wired the car due to the frequent airbag indicator which pops up and off at times.. Both problem seem to be fixed (or going to be fixed)

But the CEL is still on, any idea? (if it's related to the HVAC control unit?)

Thanks.

vX-2:
Welcome to the forum!
FYI... even though this thread is labeled "CEL", its for a different issue (most likely).
So next time please start a new thread.

Could you tell us more about your car like mileage and any aftermarket modifications (intake, exhaust, etc).
I'm guessing you meant P2097, not P2079. If that's the case, it could be a few problems.
  1. Front or rear O2 sensor
  2. IAT (intake air temp) sensor
  3. Exhaust leak
  4. Fuel pump
just to name a few...

Yeah, I know. I'm hoping its the one after the because then it won't matter. If its the one before the cat I'll have to replace.

^ Actually to be honest when I ran the Agency power midpipe I never got a CEL. I was allways baffled by it, but didnt complain.

Few seem to be lucky like that... seems to be with the '04 (except mine)
