Cat removal and mileage gain - and one question

Just installed the Racing Beat test pipe ($260) and got rid of that gawd awful heavy assed cat assembly. I saved 13 pounds, and gained a ricer rasp at about 4K. Not too bad though, considering there is no resonator. I have been monitoring my gas mileage very closely this past year, and I had started to dip down into 15.8-16.4 MPG for my last 6-7 tanks of gas... I drive 'spirited'... always. Since the removal of the cat, my last two tanks were 17.6 MPG with the same driving style, same Chevron 91 Octane at the same gas station. OK so I am polluting the air....but I am also saving on a non-renewable resource!!!

Gonna clean the MAF this weekend and do the coolant bypass mod (while I am changing out the coolant for a more dominant water mix).

I read some threads today on the air pump assembly...obviously its primary function is for cold start cat heating etc... aside from being a pain to re-install along with the cat when the emmisions reaper calls, is there any other detriment to ripping that damn thing out of the engine bay ASAFP? The cat is gone, so why have an air pump?
