car runs hot in hot weather when AC is on

I have a 2004 AT mazda Rx8 with a recently replaced 2007 engine with 36,000 miles on it the reason for the replacement was due to overheating my gf let the car run hot while driving and fried the engine.

Along With the replacement engine I have replaced the starter, radiator, plugs, coils, and spark plug wires but I'm still having the same issue. I even replaced my AC lines. Same results if the temp outside is anything under 70 degrees I dont have any issues, but once
it gets more than say 75 -80 degrees, and If im idling with the AC on the temp gauge begins to go past the middle mark and my ac blows not hot but pretty warm air.

Once I get back in motion the gauge and ac both go back to normal. Any other things I should look for or additional suggestions.
Also if the ac is not on when I'm idling i don't experience any differences in the temp gauge I was thinking of checking my fans and possibly replacing my compressor just wanted to make sure i'm not overlooking anything else

tstat, wp, check that your fans work-sometimes a rubber gromet from the airbox tray falls and jams up the fan. are you loosing coolant?

damn that sucks ... try upgrading to a series 2 water pump ... should def help ... also try using a bit more water in your coolant mix ... make sure you dont have air in the system ... 200.mph gave good advice too

Question, how did you go from a 2004 engine (4 port) to a 2007 engine (6 port)?

^Good Catch ...

thanks for the suggestions
as far as coolant I haven't noticed any loss
I replaced the thermostat the day before the first engine burned out
does Royal Purple help as far as coolant treatment? I've been hesitant in using it but a buddy of mine suggest it.

Not worth it

ZOOM-I-DO 05-15-2012 02:00 PM

Yes it really sounds like your fans are not turning on. Make sure your condensor is not blocked with crap etc..

realtalkrx8 05-15-2012 02:02 PM

thanks I'll pull out the fan and check the condensor this weekend and post my results thanks for all the help

did you install the tstat right? i know it sounds crazy but if you changed it and the next day you fried your motor. just sayin. when i flushed my coolant this spring a small piece of rubber looking stuff blocked the small restrictor in the coolant line that goes to the resivior

so how did you get an 06 motor in a 4port car?

As far as the port issue hell IDK It could've possibly been one of the early year models before that revision but it definitely fit with no problem only thing I can I can think of either that or possibly I may have been mislead buy the seller but they said it was an 06 and it fit with no issues what so ever

stinksause 05-15-2012 09:16 PM

dimensions of the engines are exactly the same

olddragger 05-17-2012 07:52 AM

yall give him a break. he doesnt know and someone else did the work.
Fan advice is good--just park the car with the a/c on , let it idle and see if a fan activates--if it doesnt then they somehow are messed up.
With ambient temps that low you should not be running hot. One the oem temp gauge goes pass the middle mark--you are in dangerous territory. Get this fixed asap.
I like activating both fans at the same time. This can be done by using a Cobb unit or buying/installing a separate fan controller.
Also MAKE sure you have the right thermostat. Some aftermarket ones do not seal the bypass port well. Best thing to do is to get the Mazmart one--tell them olddragger sent you and get $1 off. Talk to Paul.

didnt get to look at the car last weekend due to catching the flu. Finally got under the hood this past weekend and come to find out one of the cooling fans wasnt even connected, I plugged the fan back up it powered on and I havent had any issues since. Thanks for all the help guys I however have no idea how that cable got disconnected.

NO, You can not "upgrade" to a Series 2 Water Pump, they are not the same pump.

Mazmart Remedy, YES.

Good to see it was your fans not being connected....being a 2004 I would also watch the reliability of your two electric fan motors.
It has been know for them to slow (speed wise) and therefore are on and working longer, and all the associated issues with extra load on electrical system....like Alternator, Battery, Ignition, Headlights.
So, if you notice your fans are always on, check that radiator is not partially blocked and or fans motors are running at half speed.
