Can't Seem to Deflood
 

For some vehicle background:
2004 - Automatic
70K Miles
Owned Since 55K Miles
No recent work

Ok so I believe I flooded my car for the first time a few days ago. I tried holding the gas pedal down for 10 seconds then 10 seconds with no gas(didn't start). Then I tried cranking it, alternating with the fuel pump fuse out and in. And today I took out the spark plugs, turned over the motor a few times in an attempt to get rid of any remaining fuel, as well replacing the plugs with new ones. I figured surely after I did that, that the car would fire right up but no.

So, where do I go from here?

also I checked and checked and I have the leading and trailing plugs in the right spot as well as the plug wires on the right plugs

For good starting you need :

Good dry plugs
Good coils/leads
Good Battery
Good compression
Good/fast starter motor

Could be any of those but if compression is low then any of the other issues will greatly exacerbate the problem

A squirt of oil in the leading plug hole after you have dried it out as best as you can may be needed to restore compression if it is really flooded...sometimes a bit of ATF or even washer fluid in the vac ports will work as well....

Damn Automatics..takes all the fun out of de-flooding ;)

dont keep putting the gas fuse back in! if there is fuel in the chamber still, crank it without the fuse till it runs, or at least puts a few times. when you put the fuse back in your are undoing whatever good you just did

Foot to the floor shuts off fuel flow...

Worst thing you can do is give it half throttle :)

Ahhh...well good news is that I did get it to start by removing/replacing the fuse
I can see where I should have left the fuse out for a couple cycles then reinsert the fuse, rather than continually removing and reinserting the fuse like I did. Probably would have saved me a lot of time and head scratching.

How did you flood it in the first place?

Family christmas at my house. Somebody pulled the car from the driveway into the garage. I am now hiding my spare key and keeping my main key on my hip at all times.

Go back into that other thread and print out one of those two placards I posted and keep it in your glovebox. If you think it might be possible that someone might, pull it out and place on your dash or seat.
