Color doesn't matter, but content does. What brand is it? Is it glycol? Does it say that it has the additives Mazda specifies? The major name brands usually have a blanket statement on the label saying that their stuff meets manufacturers specs.

Usual mix is 50/50 glycol to water. Mazda's FL-22 brand is 55/45. Most of the major brands sell a 50/50 diluted version which is handy if you don't have storage space and an extra jug in which to mix your own blend.

Coolant is Coolant, there is nothing "magical" about it,

just buy Prestone 50/50 mix or Peak 50/50 mix that is Ethylene Glycol based coolant.

http://www.amazon.com/Prestone-50-An...6154504&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Old-World-Auto...6154527&sr=1-4

do NOT buy just Anti-freeze, you will overheat in no time.

Also do NOT buy any Dexcool garbage. Prestone sells them too but even GM (the creator of Dexcool) does not use Dexcool anymore, cuz its useless garbage that's Worst than 100% Ethylene glycol. So don't get Dexcool.

Like Ken stated the coolant needs to be compatible with Fl-22. Peak long life is the one I use.

...

ANY EG Coolant works ... FL-22 is EG coolant.

do you even know what you're talking about ?

I didn't exactly say that it has to be compatible. I just said that it needs to be glycol, and meet Mazda's specs. FL-22 is Mazda's brand of pre-diluted glycol, and obviously meets their specs.

Color does matter to the extent that if you mix colors you may get a color you don't like. But that's a matter of taste.

BTW, nyc - I like your new avatar. You'll get a lot more meals out of that than the burger you used to use.

Don't forget to set the temp properly. Buy a gauge and make sure its correct for where you live.

Here's what mazda says:

To enhance service life, reduce waste material, and lower maintenance costs, a new long-life pre-mixed “FL22” engine coolant is being introduced into mass-production for the models shown above. It is recommended that FL22 coolant continue to be used for models originally filled with FL22 coolant from the factory.
CAUTION: FL22 coolant is “pre-mixed” and must be added to the cooling system as is. DO NOT ADD WATER TO FL22 COOLANT. Adding water will dilute the solution and lessen the effectiveness of the coolant.
If coolant replacement becomes necessary for prior Mazda models (not originally filled with FL22 coolant), FL22 coolant can be used. If FL22 coolant is used for prior models, be sure to place the FL22 sticker on the reserve tank or degas bottle to indicate FL22 coolant is being used.
NOTE:
• In the case of prior models, the coolant replacement interval is every five (5) years or 60,000 miles (96,000 km).
• Six (6) FL22 stickers are included with each case of coolant.

Not very clear, but it's just another new type of coolant. Says here on the bottle, "ethylene glycol based.... 55/45 mixture recommended..... developed to provide corrosion and rust protection.....boiling point 270 degrees, freezing point -47 degrees. Ingrediants: Ethylene Glycol (107-21-1), Water (7732-18-5), Diethylene Glycol (111-46-6), Potassium Hydroxide (1310-58-3), Proprietary Inhibitors (NJTSRN 217).
If engine coolant other than FL22 is used, the engine coolant must be replaced earlier than the specified replacement interval indicated in the scheduled maintenance"

"DO NOT USE coolants containing: Alcohol, methanol, borate, or silicates"
(read the label on the back it'll tell you)

yea that simply means Mazda's coolant is just coolant.

and whats your point ?
