Can DSC be added to a base model?
Hi, I'm looking to pick up an 2004/2005 rx8, and due to budget was looking at a base model. However, I was wondering if the DSC can be added afterwards or is this cost-prohibitive? I live in socal, so I'm not 100% sure that I really need it, but just checking all of the options.
Thanks! -Jim |
no its a factory thing. only way to get it is to go up one package.

Even though you live in a generally nice weather environment, ahem like me, you see it work on dry conditions or the occasional rainy days. I've read where it has saved a few people's cars here on the forum. I'm sure if you search you can read on many members' stories about the benefits of dsc.

...or do the reverse - search to find people who think they can get better gas mileage/power with DSC off, and wrecked because it was off.

GolferJim--- Anyone who knows how to drive and lives in the warmer climbs, should have no problems with a non DSC car. I've drivin a 67 911's Porsche for years with no problems, you've got to know your and the cars limits. I've drivin a 8 with DSC and must say that it made me utterly fearless, so you'll have do weigh the pros and cons and make an educated decision. Good Luck

i believe the sport model has dsc without leather, sunroof, etc

I agree with Grapes...I live in Toronto and my RX8 doesn't have DSC. I went through the Winter last year and another winter is here...so far, no problem. You need to know the limits for each road condition and respect them.:)

I had searched allready and saw some of the discussions about the DSC. It's just that I can get a super deal on one without it. I think that I'd prefer to get one with it if I can't add it later.
Thanks for the input. -Jim |
I'm in SoCal with a base 8 and have had no trouble with traction in the rain or anywhere for that matter. This is also my first RWD car.

One nice thing about the Sport package is that you also get the upgraded headlights. It's not so much a Sport package as it is a safety package (unless we're talking A/T).
