Can this cause flooding?
 

Hey, so I tried to jump my car with a battery charger in jump mode after the battery died. Ever since then it hasn't worked. I took the spark plugs out for 3 days and put them back in and it still doesn't work. (this is the main part, you can skip to the bottom)

I tried the holding the peddle to the ground trick while cranking, and it didn't work. I just got my tires for it, popped the battery in after 3 days of no sparkplugs and it still doesn't work. We put the peddle to the ground, cranked it, nothing. Did it again, nothing. So we let the peddle untouched to get gas, and it still didn't make any sound.

It's trying to start, but there is no sound catching sound at all. After this, I pulled the spark plugs, and they are wet with gas so I assume its flooded still.

the mazda dealership says that if you try to jump the car it will flood the engine. Is this true, or is he trying to get me into the shop? Right now I got the plugs pulled again, I do need new ones, but before the jumping they worked just fine. I plan on cranking the engine with the peddle to the ground a few times then putting the plugs back in.

So is mazda lieing? Will jumping the car flood the engine? Is my car flooded?

I jumped mine, no problems.

Most people that struggle with de-flooding a rotary don't understand WHY it's flooded in the first place.

A flood occurs when there is too much fuel for the ignition to fire off. This could be because of too much fuel and a fine spark, or too little spark with fine fuel. If you keep trying to deflood it, but haven't addressed why it flooded in the first place, it's just going to keep flooding...:wallbash:


For example, a dead-battery flood. Weak battery can't spin the engine fast enough to get ignition, engine floods. Jumping it bypasses the battery problem and "solves" the reason it flooded (that time anyway). If your coils, wires, or plugs are too weak and causing the flood, then guess what? It's not going to light off until you replace the weak link.

When you tried to start the car with a weak battery you flooded it.

Step 1. Get a car that starts
Step 2. Hook the battery from the car that will start to your car like you are going to jump it. Start the other car.
Step 3. hold gas peddle to the floor then crank the engine for about 10 seconds. Turn the key off. You should smell gas.
Step 4. rev the engine on the other car a bit to kick the volts up.
Step 5. repeat steps 3 and 4 about 5 times.
Step 6. try starting the 8 normally(with jumpers still attached)
Step 7. if it doesn't start go back to step 3 every time you get to step 7 it should sound like it's trying to start more and more.

Sorry its a 2006 RX-8. I didn't have winter tires so I was just idling using gas and battery. I ran out of gas, used the battery till it died. I tried jumping it with a small machine, we waited until it was in the green, but I'm thinking that it being in the green wasn't enough for the engine. This is what I'm wondering, if it was just too weak.

It's manual I tried flooring the gas and starting it with the spark plugs in and it didn't do anything. I tried for a good 10 minutes but I don't want to wear the starter too bad.

So it did work before the jumping with the spark plugs, after it stopped working. Pulled plugs for 3 days (gas didn't evaporate?), tried to start it with the plugs in, peddal down, nothing, no catching sound at all just the rrrrrrr sound. I pulled plugs, and they were decently wet, so I didn't solve the flooding?

I heard you pull the plugs, try to start it a few times and it should deflood it out the spark plug hole, is this true? I think I'm beyond just flooring the peddal and and starting

search up methods of push/pull starting. It's the best way to start after flooding.

Also, have your battery tested. As RIWWP said, if you don't resolve the route of the cause, you'll find more problems down the road.

That said, search the diy section to test your plugs/coils, should your battery be okay.

I wish people would learn how to boost a car

....do not do it with the donor car running..or you could burn out the alternator/regulator or worse...

hook the positive of the batteries together...and the ground on the donor battery to a good grounding point on the car being boosted..don't go to the battery

Start the car.....then disconnect the cables. If the car being boosted doesn't start......you can start the donor car...and let it charge the battery in the other car....just don't try and start it with the donor car running....

well I think pull starting is the last resort for right now, I know of it and would love to do it.

I have the plugs out right now, I should be able to just crank it a little bit right? The rotars will form a suction and push the gas out?

If pull starting doesn't work you've got a bigger problem. I've had them start in a few feet while being pulled and one particularly stubborn 3rd gen RX-7 that was flooded (by flood waters!) took a few miles to start.
