Benefits of 5.1 brake fluid?
Hello, I was wondering what the benefits are? I'm a newb to manual transmissions but I'm under the impression that the clutch fluid and brake fluid are shared? Would a higher boiling temp fluid "protect" my clutch better? Does it affect clutch take up and effort? I use the 8 for autocross about every other sunday so was wondering if I should switch over for better performance/protection?
And I hear 5.1s don't absorb water as well so would ppl NOT recommend it for driving in a place with rainy/snow conditions (I live in rainforrest vancouver)? |
Bottom line: don't. Clutch and brake share the same reserve. Higher boiling temp won't "protect" your clutch better. Won't affect clutch (or brake) take-up or effort. People track RX-8's on OEM brake fluid with no problems, so autocross is even less of a concern.
Main reason to avoid 5.1 is it can eat lines/seals. If you want better brake fluid use something like Super Blue or Motul 600. ________ Smallville Dicussion |
it eats lines/seals???? hmm... so basically it's not for street use only race cars?
I see... thanks for the heads up before I made the leap! :D |
