There's no PFC yet for the '8 - maybe in the future, but not as of yet.
The PFC is a total stand-alone - take the stock ECU, unplug and remove it, and plug the PFC in.
The big advantage the PFC has is it comes pre-tuned to some extent, and is quite easy to use and tune with the hand-held controller. The downside is it's totally application specific, so you have to get the one for your car - they make a number of different PFC's for different vehicles.
There is one for the 3rd gen RX-7 that works extremely well and is very popular. May be tricky for them to make one for the '8 as the ECU controls a LOT of stuff, not just running the engine. All that stuff would have to be programmed into the PFC.
Right now, the best option for programmibility is the E-manage. Taps into the existing wiring, very tuneable and flexible, and has shown definite horsepower gains. Search the Tech section - there's a big writeup on it there.
