Anyone know what's new in BP gasoline?

I was filling up the other day at a BP and saw they now have a new campaign stating that they're putting something in their gasoline to help keep my engine clean.

Naturally, as an RX owner, I immediately became concerned.

Anyone know what it is? I believe the PR campaign calls it 'Innovate' or something like that. I didn't write it down. What's weird is I can't seem to find a search string in Google that will show it to me.

Who makes the detergent additives in Amoco Ultimate?
A specialized chemical manufacturer makes the proprietary cleaning formula for BP.
Proprietary -- meaning you're not going to get details. Just stick to any Top Tier gasoline and you'll be fine. I don't see BP on the list. Maybe they're trying to get there with the new formula?

I'll see if I can find out. I work at BP.
BTW, TopTier is a marketing tool. If a companies gasoline meets certain requirements and you pay to join the TopTier group, then you can put the logo on your marketing material, gas pumps, etc.

I notice this "new bp additives" called Invigorate a while ago. They said they have this new "clean your engine" formula in every line of gasoline they have, meaning even if u get Regular, u still gonna get it.

but what is it I dont know,

Funny, I was ABOUT to do a google and then I saw this thread. lol

Might be a good marketing tool for the gas companies, but why would auto makers (e.g., the six cited on the TopTier web site) declare that their cars needed it? I'd be reluctant to buy any car whose maker said it needed particular brands of gas.

Well, at least Top Tier has some quantifiable standards and tests. Asking what specific cleaning agents a brand is putting in the gas probably isn't going to get very far. As noted, the formulations are proprietary. And even if you did get the recipe for their "secret sauce", do you really think it would tell you much? The question you really want answered is how good a job it does keeping your engine clean. Top Tier, while having a marketing component, at least does attempt to answer that question. Let us know if there is some other, better source.

I'm a contractor that works on computers there. I am not a BP employee and I am not a BP spokesman. At the present time, I am impressed with the company, but I will not be a fanboy for the company. I have nothing to do with the formulations of gasoline or oil. I do however have access to the areas that do research and marketing of some of these. Alot is done in Houston and I wouldn't have access to that.
I'll see what I can dig up.

As far as the AM/PM thing. I think I heard something a while ago that BP was selling off company owned stations in certain markets. They may be changing the brand name for these now franchise owned stations.

Sometimes nothing changes. It's just marketing hype.

Like tooth paste claims.

Are BP prices in NYC competitive with other stations? Here in Northern Virginia, BP tends to be at least 20 cents a gallon higher than other places. That pretty much wipes out a 5% rebate. Slight bit of culture shock, since the local Amoco station used to be the cheapest in town until they went BP.

I've got a Chase Rewards card, which gives 3% rebate (toward gas) on gas anywhere, plus 1% on everything else. I just picked up an application from some gas station (Sunoco, I think) that offers 10% rebate for the first 60 days. Offer is good through the end of the year. I'll order a card in early November, in time for our holiday travels.

arco is about 10-20 cents cheaper than the rest on the west coast.

Its about the same everywhere. the only station here that cost more than the others would be Shell. they usually cost at least 10 cents more than the competitors, even its just on the opposite side of the street.

There is no Amoco station anymore, cuz BP either shut it or replaced them with BP brand (and add a wild bean cafe to them)

BP visa has the first 60 days for 10% @ bp station. after that is 5% on bp, 1% on all others. I got my card like 5-6 months ago, already earned me like over 150 bux in gas rebates (I dont spend all of them, sometimes I use my card to pay for friend's stuff and meals. it adds up quick)

Im about to go call and tell them I want to cancel, just to threat them to give me longer period of 10% rebate.
