All the rotary tech you've ever wanted to know!

This is the tech section so I felt this belongs here. This is all the rotary technical info you could ever ask for. You will need a copy of winrar to download it. You can download free trial versions on the internet and then save the contents. Beware, at 83 mb this file is HUGE! This will keep you guys busy for a real long time. Enjoy!

Thanks for the link RG... downloading (thumbs triggling)

How come I was a tight ass when I chose the slower boardband plan. Go to sleep now, I will read the file in the morning.

Awesome. :D

murix 01-04-2005 10:15 AM

Thanks for the file. Only took me 11 minutes to download. :)

Spin9k 01-04-2005 10:15 AM

3 min 38 sec (368kb/sec)... can't... wait... that... long ... my fingers are getting numb and tingling...

got it but what is a .rar file? Ok got it - winrar. Now the long part - reading through this :) Thanks!

You guys will love this one. This shows you exactly how the rotary fires and the relationship between the e-shaft and rotors. It also does a comparison against different types of piston engines. Click on EngineApp.exe and have fun.

That file is amazing. I've been looking for Yamamoto's book forever. Finally, something with math I can understand. :p

Wow... freakin WOW.... :D

robertdot 01-07-2005 09:41 PM

I might cry if the first one doesn't run on Mac. I know the second doesn't (damn .exe). Guess I'll have to take it to work...

army_rx8 01-07-2005 09:56 PM

wow 3 mins on a t3 that's pretty slow:p...i only got a cable modem and i'm kicking 509KB/s on this download:D

sweet info:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I found a mistake in one of the SAE papers!!! It is in paper 90-1-6. Figure 4. Variable Dynamic Intake System, has an error in the labeling. The top picture shows low speed range and bottom shows high speed range. This is WRONG!!! It's backwards. They messed up when they did the paper. The top one should read High Speed and the bottom should read Low Speed. The gasses take the longer route at low speeds. I have another picture of this graph in a book but it is properly labeled. I also know how the system works. If you study the different effects on length in the graphs further down you can see that it backs me up.

I've done some other studying of these works. I did find in the book by Yamaguchi, info as to the effects of rotor recess shapes with emissions reduction. It took a little thinking and although they don't directly mention it, there is one graph that actually explains (if you think about it, not literally written) why the Renesis fires the trailing plugs ahead of the leading at idle. It is all for emissions. Most likely at least half the amount alone just due to this. That's the only explanation that would make any sense since this would not help power at all. Unfortunately if it dies in fact have this effect, don't count on Mazda changing it.

Gotta love what close studying can do!

In the "renesis_paper.pdf" this is confirmed, the authors were addressing possible methods of reducing HC emssions on perphipal exhaust port engines at idle speeds by "(a) burning the unburned mixture at the T-side end of the combustion chamber" (T-side = trailing side)

The rest of the paper goes on to discuss the side exhaust port configuration's benefit in "(b) preventing HC from being emitted in the effluent gasses." and they don't discuss "(a)" any further.

From this paper it seems clear that the reason for firing the trailing plugs first at idle speeds is to reduce HC emissions.

Great read similar to War and Peace by Tolstoy ;)

cheers
