Accidentally burned the clutch...
I decided to take advantage of the 40º weather and take muy car to the car wash. When I pulled in there was a big line so I had to stop right in the middle of a very steep incline.... when I went and tried to start rolling again I stalled, restarted and figured it was a good excuse to spin the tires a bit so I gave it gas and started letting go of the clutch but the car did not move at all, the revs just dropped.... that's when I realized I was in freaking 3rd gear :banghead: so I shifted into first and got over no problem. BUT then it started smelling like burned clutch (kindoff expected).... (biiiiigggg facepalm) thank god it was time for the wash so I turned the car off for like 30 min.
Anyway, my question is to what extent did I damage the clutch by doing this. if I should start looking forward to installing a new clutch or if its gonna be fine. thanks guys, I just want some piece of mind |
In the grand scheme of things the effect should be negligible as long as you're not smelling burning clutch daily.

a little bit is ok. you might damage it a bit but as long as it not slipping youre fine.

thanks for the replies... btw, is there a way to test if your clutch is slipping, I mean obviously if its really bad it will be noticeable but how do you know if its slipping to a small extent?

Our clutches are pretty durable. Some people run stock clutches with their turbo and supercharger set ups. Drive the car around. If everything feels the same, then chances are you are fine. If something is wrong, the car will let you know. Don't over-analyze.
