238 hp or not???
 

sup guys, this is my first post herre. im getting my own 8 as soon as i sell my 99 civic since the dealer didnt give me nearly enough for what my civic was worth. my civic has almost everything you could ask for... anyways, i've heard that 8's 238 hp was overstated by the company. is this true? did any1 get dyno test for your 8? if so, what was your result?

its more like 215-225 bhp

There have also been reports that the 8 does not dyno at what it actually produces.

Mazda's claim of 238 is as believeable as any manufacturers claim of HP.

Actually adjustments must be made for the effects of friction, fuel quality, humidity, type of shoes you wear, what you ate last night, and other influences. Which after these adjustments are made leaves a total of -15 horsepower. Or about 253HP short of what Mazda claims. :p

Seriously though, from what I've seen here from doing searches and reading all of the dozens of horsepower and dyno posts here is that no one knows what type of dyno Mazda used and therefore the independent dyno tests are inconclusive. From what I understand the RX-8 calculates wheel speed, vehicle speed, intake air volume, and a bunch of other factors which are difficult to replicate.

The RX8 identifies sub-space anomalies and adjusts the reactor coils accordingly. BTW, T-Pol and Tucker had a baby in the future.

FYI,

247hp was the "mis-stated" number that Mazda subsequently revised to 238hp.

Currently 238hp is the correct HP as stated by Mazda.

Whether or not you or anyone believes it is another story. However, as far as Mazda, the press and other official sources are concerned, the 238hp is not an overstatement or mis-statement.

At 88 Mph, with the appropriate mods, it will generate a reverse tachyon field that rips a hole in the space/time continuum, which allows you to exceed 20 MPG. Of course, your actual mileage depends on the octane rating of the gas you're using.;)

My car dynoed at 184whp. Factor 15% trans loss = 217hp. That is 9% less than 238 as stated by Mazda.

This is really useless information though. I cannot verify the reults are accurate without knowing what the actual trans losses are. No one on this forum has gone beyond guessing.

I do think that Mazda is fluffing the #'s for sales. The complexities of testing the engine with LAW SUIT accuracy are too much for most of us. 247hp was ridiculous, 238hp is simply not likely.

A warranty voiding CZ1 will give me my precious hp back.

It might be a question of advertised power vs. ISO 1585 or SAE Net J-1349 power.

Forgive my low-level understanding, but it seems to me if a slip stream can be achieved at, say, warp 1.5, efficiency will be increased, i.e. greater speed and more miles while using less energy. We need to focus on the slip stream, which if achieved, will make our engine seem like it has infinite HP and gas mileage.

In a frictionless environment...
