'07 RX-8 not starting
 

So I have had my 8 for about 5 months now, first time rotary owner here. Everything seemed to be running and moving along just fine. About a three weeks ago I noticed there was a small delay when the car would finally turn over and start. I then went on vacation and the car sat for about a week in my mothers driveway. I got back, the car was moved to the other side of the driveway, and it would not start. My first guess was that whoever moved it did not let it warm up before turning it off cause it to flood. I have tried a DIY flooding techiniques but have to had any success.

Also, therer are times when I do the deflooding technique then the battery sounds like it is loosing life. However, all of the lights and windows seem to be working just fine. Also, when I try this method and stop turning the key, the check engine light flashes at me about 5-10 times then remains on...

Any suggestios???

There a few threads on this issue this past week. Look for the one entitled "Flooded rx8." The easiest solution to your problem is to pull start the car. Run it for a bit and then pull out your plugs and clean them if wet.

The plugs won't be wet if it starts.

M8, it really is not rocket science, if your Cars Battery sounds weak or loosing life, then there is part of your issue....ALL Rotaries hate weak batteries.

FIRST: recharge it to FULL, and see it it holds charge, how old is battery, could it need a new one?

Next is Spark Plugs, how old and what condition, next are Coils, have they ever been renewed.

How many miles has car done?..it is original Engine?

IF flooded will need to dry out, perhaps get a tow push start if a 6MT.

So, what is the best way to properly complete a pulls tart? just have someone tow me up to 15?

Also, once the pull start is successful (hopefully), what is the next step to ensure that it will start up again in the future?

If you have a couple of buddies who can push it, then do that. If not grab your tow hooks in the trunk and have another vehicle pull it. This should be a given, but key on, 1st gear, clutch in the floor. Up to speed dump clutch car starts push in clutch. Get car out of the road and let idle to clear any unburned fuel and oil. If you have not changed your plugs, coils and leads in a while, this would be a great time.

Did you read my post, once you get it de-flooded check your Ignition, Plugs, Battery, Coils, even Air Filter Element, and perhaps answer some questions asked would help responses.

I have not been able to get it de-flooded. I work 60 hours a week and havnt had a say to fully work on it. I have tried to deflooding technique to hook that battery up to another car, pull the fuel fuse, push in clutch and gas while turning key for about 15-20 seconds, then puttin in the fuel fuse and trying to start it normally. I repeated this process a couple times but still not luck.

I am planning on grabbing a battery and new spark plugs this weekend just to ensure they will be fine know when they are replaced as i am still using the ones that came in the car when i bought it. I do not think the coils have been renewed. I am not too familiar with coils although i would like to replace them. How much do they normally go for? easy to install? I do belive it is teh original engine (renesis) and the car has 49k mi on it. I bought it with 44k. I am averaging about 1k miles a month due to my commute.

Also, i have heard that it is good to get close to redline nearly everyday when it is fully warm to help clean out build up...is this true?

Calm down both of you. koRyX-8, you have multiple deflooding methods listed in this thread.

If none of the methods are working, then whatever caused the flood in the first place still exists as a problem, and you haven't addressed it, and the engine is re-flooding immediately.

Flooding is a symptom of a problem. It doesn't just occur by itself. A flood will always mean that something else failed. Without fixing that, your deflood attempts will be troublesome, and possibly without results.

Ash noted the parts you need to replace and/or check.
