04 Rx8 keeps stalling when A/C is on
Has anyone else had any issues with the 04 Rx8 stalling when the A/C is on?
I have a manual. It's fine when i'm driving, but once I stop and have the gear in neutral, I can feel the enging bogging down and then the engine just dies and the check engine light comes on; then I have to push the clutch in and try to start the car and it takes awhile to start....close to almost flooding I think b/c the engine is just dying while running. After it starts again, there is no check engine light. Any suggestions to fix this will be appreciated. |
Maybe the idle speed is set too low. I had the same problem with my Toyota and solved it by increasing idle speed. Then again, your A/C might be starting to fail and putting a drag on your engine when engaged.

Ok... list of questions that will help us narrow it down:
1) Roughly how many miles do you have? 2) Has your spark plugs been replaced? 3) Have you had all the recalls performed? 4) Are you running with any mods? If so, what are they? This includes audio, engine management, crank pulleys, intake, etc... |

I would start by changing coils and plugs. I'll bet you see an improvement right away.

If your coils are going, you'll progressively find that moving from a dead stop to be harder and harder to do smoothly. Eventually, you'll be slipping the clutch at 3,000 rpm in order to get it moving. If you don't, the engine will bog down and you'll stall.
Coils run $26-30 each. You'll need four. Install is extremely easy, but most of the install time is removing misc crap that is in the way (mostly your intake). |
stalling is more than likely the engine being low on compression, need to have that checked before anything else

if he has the original coils, there's a far higher chance of them burning out than the engine dying.

whenever I *unplug* my battery wire, after reconnect it takes about 1-2 drive cycle for my engine to stabilize, yep, the first 1-2 drive cycle stalls ALOT.
After that, it will stabilize |

Sticking apex seal due to carbon buildup.

With only 39,000 miles on it you're still under warranty. Take it to the dealer with your concerns and let them fix it.

You need new spark plugs. You are overdue. Even if they replaced plugs under the recall, they only do one set. Start with the plugs first.
