AT Shift knob

Any of you guys know where i can find a new shift knob for my AT. I saw this one owner that changed the apperance to almost look like the one of the MT's. Also any possibilities of making if like a short shifter..just not as long as the OEM. Thanks!

don't do it! - they will boo you!! :( i know from experience...

i still did it though :) looks dope

Thanx everyone for helping me out..ill look at a couple of pics and see what i like. I just wished since they made it so short looking on the MT that they would have done something different with the AT.

paint your shift plate piano black, it looks 100x better.

One more quick ?...Is it dificult 2 remove the OEM shift cover..im seriously thinking of buying another boot...cutting the shift a little bit smaller like in ther first post and changing shift..i dont want 2 pose as if my car was an MT i just want 2 go for a little bit of a different look.

i did this as one of my first 'mods'

it's not too difficult to do, just a lil' tricky - it's really easy to pop out the stuff though it seems a lil' fragile at times - just make sure you have a flat head when your poppin' stuff out - i used a generic (sp) momo shift boot that i cut some slits around it to fit...

you could also go the extra mile and file down the actual shifter to make it seem shorter like an MT - i personally didn't do it because that's just going above and beyond :eyetwitch

^^^ Atilla if you dont mind me bothering you do you have any pics of it?

So once you buy the boot and replace, and cut, any shfit knob will work?

I have my eyes on some Momo ones but I was waiting on the confirmation.

Dominicano 03-03-2008 12:25 PM

^^^ That's also what i wanted to know..also i wanted to know what would be the simplest way to cut it a little shorter on an earlier post it spoke of a dremmel would that work fine or can there be a more simple way of doing it?

HiTMaNN 03-03-2008 12:42 PM

Momo is universal with there fit they use rubber allan key grommets to hold there knobs in place I think. As for cutting it you are only doing that because the AT shaft sticks out so far so it is up to you how low you want to cut it. I would cut it an inch put the knob on see how you like it. If it is still to tall cut another half inch and keep doing it until you like it

Dremel is the easiest way to do it but if you wanna go low tech use a Hack Saw

Dominicano 03-03-2008 05:04 PM

After cutting it with a dremel or a hacksaw will the momo still screw in perfectly or will i have 2 adjust anything? Im guessing i should not have any problems.

Like I said prior you will not have any problems as the Momo Shift Knob is universal and does not screw into your threads on your stock shaft

Dominicano 03-03-2008 05:44 PM

^^^Hitman thanx for all the heads up..ill see if i can order the new boot and knob and install hopefully within the next 2 weeks..have to wait for the next paycheck...lol.

Atilla 03-03-2008 05:49 PM

haha - guessed i missed the Q n' A - but hitman didn't! haha

GL with the install - i had the most difficulty cutting the slits around the boot so the clips would still go thru and clip onto the rest of the panel.

Dominicano 03-03-2008 08:39 PM

If i can do it ill probably get help from someone so i dont end up messing anything up..also ill try 2 take a small video with my digital camera and post it on you tube..as a DYI..just to help everyone else out..but like i said i need 2 get some money first b4 i start..lol.

So will the AT Rx8 leather shift knob or the Autoexe shift knob fit if you trim the shaft? I don't think these are universal fit. If so, how would you trim the shaft so the knob will still fit if the knob isn't universal? Thanks.
