AT shift boot

I have searched so don't flame me and my question still no answer

i just bought a $60 boot from shift style for my AT and i hope its gonna fit right the thing i am worried about is the plastic ring around the top of the boot that holds it up there. i think these rings come on MTs and my AT dosent have one that i know of or does it? can anyone help me out?

HomicidalApple 03-15-2010 08:15 PM

ummmm idk i may be wrong but the at doesnt have a boot right??

the boots that shift style sells are for MT, i just ordered one myself.

HomicidalApple 03-15-2010 08:17 PM

woops, i didnt mean it doesnt have a boot in general, i just meant i dont think ShiftStyle sells boots for the AT, it looks like they only have MT ones

bkkkk93 03-15-2010 08:20 PM

that's what i though but i emailed them prior to ordering and they said they have had people that used them on Ats

interesting... post pics if you're successful installing it... even the shifter diameter is different on the AT.. hence why you can't just buy an MT knob.

I imagine you're going to have to do something with the shifter guide... not sure if that's even replacable... it's been a while since I've had my console apart.

HomicidalApple 03-15-2010 10:07 PM

Yea idk it doesnt make sense im not sure how that would fit at all

HomicidalApple 03-15-2010 10:08 PM

without extensive and expensive mods that is. im sure it can be done but it would take alot of work to do it

there is a DIY on how to use a manual shift boot with an AT. I think it is in the DIY section, if I find it I'll post the link

bkkkk93 03-16-2010 06:13 PM

WTBRotary! 03-17-2010 02:21 AM

Lol yeah im gonna be at the State Meet... and of course there is a DFW crew that is gonna drive down, we did it last year... someone else has asked the same question on the official State meet thread I believe, or maybe prepare thread... not exactly sure but go check it out. A DFW local posted where we normally meet to drive out for the State Meet...

Wig92 03-17-2010 10:29 AM

bkkkk93 03-22-2010 06:37 PM

yeah so i got tired of waiting and just tried to throw on my shift boot and i ran into a few problems

1. i have nothing to hold up the boot to the knob
2. its really big
3. kinda hard to clip back down now

WTBRotary! 03-22-2010 06:51 PM

^^^ PM Creto, He's the one of the DFW crew that has the AT shift boot, he should be able to help ya out...

Shoulda gone with a MT... I didnt know they made Shinka's in AT...

bkkkk93 03-22-2010 07:02 PM

yeah i should have but wasnt gonna pass up the shinka even if it was AT and alright thanks for the help

WTBRotary! 03-22-2010 07:07 PM

No problem, and btw Shinka's aren't too far off from the GT 6MT's other than Bilstein Shocks... and the interior...

bkkkk93 03-22-2010 08:02 PM

yeah i know but i like having things that others dont

Wig92 03-22-2010 08:38 PM

BAM! ^^me too man, 8's are already pretty unique so its cool to have one custom to you. I just finished up w/ my offset plate.

im prob gonna get a boot from a guy in DFW, im waiting a response but hopefully he'll be at the DFW meet for pick up.

im getting the stock 6spd shift boot, so we'll see how that works.

bkkkk93 03-23-2010 09:12 AM

ill try to get pics up soon

lilring 03-23-2010 02:59 PM

The stock Shift boot fits with no problems.. I took pics of how to install it but I cant upload my pics for some reason. (Stuiped stolen internet).. Theres nothing to hold the knob to the boot but you dont need to. Its hard to explain but once you do it. You will know what im talking about
