Red Line vs Royal Purple ATF, etc
 

Just wondering if anyone has any more up to date info, longer term impressions, etc on using the synthetic fluids in the tranny. Anyone happen to do a before and after dyno?

I read where 09Factor said he was getting better shifting with the RP. Any other thoughts?

I'm on the fence on this one as well - i have 10 quarts of royal purple max atf sitting in my garage right now waiting to be put in - i'm just doing some more research on it to find some users reviews...

I've been using the RedLine High Temp ATF for the last 2 years without issues. A bit more rough shifting (when the car is pushed hard) but this is why I wanted the extra viscosity. And the High Temp rating means to protect when car overheats (as 4AT does). Low speed bobbing when engine is cold much reduced versus the OEM ATF also.

AMS Oil ATF was good, the shift was smoother when the car runs after 30 mins.

Overall I can feel the difference b/w the OEM and the AMS oil.

I do wait for some Royal purple review at this point.

I think 09Factor uses RP ATF. Hopefully he will see this thread and chime in here.

Redline rocks, I've heard bad thinks about Royal Purple.

I vote for Red Line High Temp ATF. Used it for nearly 2 years and no issues.

I haven't used either one in my 8. But I have used Redline in other cars. I 'll have to vote for Redline.
I think on my next trans fluid change I'll install Redline.

What sort of things have you heard about RP? I thought they were supposed to be pretty good...

When I used RP for the AT, it smoothed the shifting. Also shifting at higher RPM's were more positive, quicker, and smoother.

i haven't used it since I became FI'd. Thats a diffrent story Easy knows about.

IMO Amsoil makes the best synthetic ATF fluid

A softball size rock took out my transverse member, oil pan, and tranny pan.
Also the cat and middle pipe. It was the rock, a ditch, or a Duley 350HD Ford truck.

I picked the rock. This happened Aug, of '06.

This new AT fluid needs to be some great stuff to be better than RP. I started using RP just before I FI'd and it has been great stuff. Stock ATF burned up in about 3-5 grand. I've 15000 on the last RP ATF change and it still smells and feels fresh.

That question could be debated for a long time.
Dave hit a rock the size of a watermelon and took out everything under the car that held fluid. And a little more.
So you like the RP ATF Phil.? I'm going with Redline in the next month or so. Unless Ray wants to make me a guinea pig for his ENOS too.

hey, when are you going to do the trans fluid change? let me know when you are going to do it.. its been something i need to do but i dont really know how. in other words when you do yours, if you can helo me with mine. and let me know what you end up using for fluid.

Redline here! I have been running with the regular Redline ATF but will top off the trans with the hi-temp stuff when I add my trans cooler.

From what I've been reading...
RP in the MT's are bad since they lack modifiers.
RP ATF is good in the AT's.
That's just my findings.

Haven't done it myself either. I'll probably take it to my dealer and have them use their machine to make sure most of the old stuff is out.

I may do it soon, or I may wait until I hit 30K (I'm at 20K now). Haven't decided yet. I'm not really having any problems (knock on wood), but I'm researching to see if switching to the synthetic will really give me any big advantage over OEM.

FYI - my dealer tech (who doesn't really seem like the "gouge the customer" type) does recommend changing it every 30K to be on the safe side.

I believe that is Mazda recommended time also. In the desert it's a real good idea to check your fluid at least weekly during the hot summer to make sure you do not "burn" the fluid. With Rays A/T radiator I am not as worried but it is still a good idea to check it.

If you do that much damage to a vehicle it stands to reason that there could have been personal injury and in my usual incoherent fashion, I was trying to find if he was injured.

I assume that you escaped injury? Did you save the turbo:). Is there anyway we can blame this on Ray?

Easy: Well I did try Redline once and was not impressed. I felt no change in the tranny and it only lasted as long as regular AT fluid. When I first went to RP I felt a real change in the A/T as it shifted smoother and seemed to run cooler. I am due for a fluid change but not because it's been over heated. Now comes the question will this be a fair test of the new fluid cuz I have the BHR A/T radiator? It should be as I have no respect for conventional thought on the use and rev limits of the A/T.

Thanks for asking. I'm ok,just not right. The car is fine, and the tubo wasn't even bought yet. When the dealer replaced the oil pan, it always leaked. Well that was fixed last week.

I was doing some reading on AMSOil, RP and Redline...

I ahve read in diffrent forums that the Redline either seems to breakdown faster or the user dosen't sense a diffrence. I also don't believe everything I read.

Since I know what RP feels like in a NA car, I want to try the AMSOil next.
