MPG problem...?
 

I'm having quite the problem here... Me and a friend of mine recently installed an AEM CAI and the Greddy SP2 catback exhaust. Everything runs great and I can notice some changes. But, the biggest change I notice was my MPG... it has gotten bad. I first noticed it when I went to work with a full tank and when I got to my destination it went down to 3/4 of a tank usually it wasnt like that before. I told a friend of mine and he says it might be blockage of airflow to the CAI. I don't have a "real" grille on I only have the factory grille where most of it is block off. I don't know much of the technical side of the RX-8 because i'm very new to this so sorry for the lack of techical jargin. But anyways, if anyone could give me their input I would appreciate it alot.

hmmm thats weird i have the ms cai (which is basiclly the same thing) but i also have the ms front.

i dont know, doesnt the stock intake go to the same area?

how long have you had it installed? it's takes a while for the ecu to get a feel for the change in airflow and in the beginning it actually is worse.

another factor is, are you sure you're not just driving the car harder since you have a greddy exhaust and aem intake now? lol

I installed it last saturday and no I haven't driven hard I'm pretty much babying it. ;)

give yourself a week or two. your mileage might end up the same as before once the ecu learns and you start mashing the throttle. :)

LaserKei, Maybe you can try this, it definately works, reset your ECU to let it re-learn the new mods, this is how you do it

1st. Turn on your ignition, do not start the engine
2nd. once you turn on your ignition, quickly press the brakes as many times as you can,
when you reach to about 20 times, you should see the oil meter on your extreme left top of the dials, it will go all the way to 0 then back to the middle.

Keep trying until it works, because mine didnt work the 1st time, then 2nd time it worked. Hope this helps.

speaking of mpg loss i have had a throttle body spacer on my rx8 for about 3 weeks and the mileage is pretty low, about 15 or so now and is showing no improvment, is this normal on this engine??

edit: i just saw how to reset the ecu, i guess i will try that before i end up removing it and trying to get my money back....

Laserkei - suggest you also be a bit more scientific about measuring your consumption. When you make mods - you suddenly are looking at things more intensly than before the mod. If you don't measure things accurately you can trick yourself into believing all sorts of things.
Other than that - wait a few hundred miles & retest once ecu has learnt your setup as the others suggest.
