Most HP in a 4 port AT
I've read and read and read on all the F1 threads here. Turbocharging a AT, most say yes it can be done just as easily as an MT, with a little bit different tune. Alot of the turbo kits I've been reading about seem to claim 300-400 HP roughly. Now it seems most kits are designed of course for the MT. My conclusions are those 300-400 HP numbers on the kit are for the MT, meaning the AT numbers on the same kits will be lower? For example in theory if money isnt an object, what is the most HP one can get out of a 4 Port AT? Can we even get to 250HP?

Ask Phil's 8 he has a supercharged AT it's pretty fast. Yes it's more than 250hp.
|
More HP is all relative to the amount of money you want to spend.
If MM can run 14psi of boost then there is no reason the AT can't do it either. |
Yep ask Phil8
|
phil's 8 is a beast.. and it's an auto.
|
09factor has a turbo 4-port that he seems to be very happy with.
Mazsport just announced a newer, less expensive kit with high quality components. Talk to Scott and I'm sure he'd be happy to work with you on a good setup. |
yes it is.. just read above. lol.. just a lil FYI i just dyno mine on sat. and got 143 HP on a mustang dyno

If anyone has links to them I'd be interested to see for my own reference! |
i'm intrested in seeing the Tq curve from Phil.

I'd like to see pics of his engine bay too.

No, it was 143 at the wheels stock. I did mine a few weeks back and got 140 to the wheels on the same dyno. Keep in mind that it is a mustang dyno, which reads lower than a dynojet dyno.
Yeah, FI definitely costs a pretty penny. But as time goes on, more options will come out and prices will go down some. |
^ I should say 143 at the wheels NA. I don't believe lilring has any power mods, correct? I have a couple of very minor power mods, which means I may have picked up 4 or 5 whp from them, so I was probably like 135 whp stock.
|
I should also say my 140 was before installing the IntX. Right now I'm on a base map from Scott on that, but I'm going to be working with Scott to get a little better tune out of it. I do feel like I picked up some power in the upper half of the tac with just the base map. Not a lot, but noticeable.

This is good info to know. I'm guessing 300 HP is a definate reach for the 4 pt AT. mdw1000 how come you haven't done the Mazsport ignition solution yet? That is next for me, with a plug change. Then probably the Mazmart water pump. Was the water pump an easy swap?

If scott can tune your int-x plan to see 20-30 more hp at the wheels

300 whp would be a stretch for a stock injector setup 4 port. Considering the 6 port has 2080 cc of fuel and the 4 port has 1520. I know it can be done. Maybe I'll try later this year. Just need bigger injectors . |
With the mazsport 300 series turbo the 4 port can reach around 275 rwhp and with bigger injectors and fuel pump you can reach over 300
|
5500 to 6000.00 isnt all that bad of a price for the complete setup. I can't decide if I want to drop this money on the kit, or trade the car for soemthing different. The resale value is plumbeting. I'm almost thinking of keeping the car, and then having something unique out of the deal.
|
Haven't done the ignition solution because of two reasons:
1. Money. I need more of it. 2. If I do go FI, I'm not planning on going for super-high numbers. |

MDW1000, how is the RP supercat holding up and how does it sound? I was thinking of getting that for the 8 to save a couple pounds and free up a little exhaust flow as well. Did you do it before or after the cat-back?

Tim,
I did it after the catback. Gives the car a more aggresive sound, but there is actually less highway drone than with just the catback. I think I picked up a small amount of power up high. Only issue was that you may get a rattle. The heat shield on the supercat tends to hit the stock heat shield between the cat and trans. Get a little creative with bending the stock heat shield and it will mostly go away. |
I want to get the mazsport ignition set and the 2005 cobb access for AT. Hopefully someone will sell one in the future, but I wouldnt mind paying less then full price lol.
Anyways I have a couple if questions. I'm satisfied with how my car is doing stock, and don't want to lose any of that. At the same time, I would not mind a little deeper of an exhaust sound accompanied with a k&n typhoon cold air. What exhaust and air intake solution do you guys recommend? I don't want my rx8 to sound rice. I just want it to have a slighty deeper, more muscley sound like the 6 spd. Any suggestions? |
if you want a nice deep sound that sounds clean. get the borla. thats what i have and it is amazing... it is nice and deep and not to loud.
