mazdaspeed cold air intake
Hi, I'm interested in the mazdaspeed cold air intake. I asked around and was told that it is a better mod for the at than manual for some reason.
Anyways, I would like to hear from anyone that has this system in their 8 and the estimated horsepower increase in gives and any other helpful info to help me decide if I will be getting it or not. Also, does anyone know if it is a fact that adding a pulley mod will hinder your air conditioner performacne? Thanks. |
Funny, I'm thinking about adding one to my AT as well. That and a mazdaspeed exhaust.

I have a 2004 RX-8 with the aero & accent packages. I have had the car for just about 2 years and I am looking to get a little more acceleration along with the sound to go along with it. I'm interested in the Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intake and also the Mazdaspeed Sport Dual Muffler Exhaust. I'd like to know the hp increase with each and if it is a justified expence. What are the possible drawbacks from the cold air intake. Mazda says orange triangle on that warranty!
All help is appreciated. |
please go easy on the throttle, or the savage acceleration will rip your head right off :P
seems like you need to do quite a bit of changes to "feel" it. as for the sound.. well.. that's subjective. you may want to read the aftermarket exhaust/intake threads, and see the comments there of the ppl that have them installed. even if the intake/exhaust will yeld bigger increases in power, don't except sth dramatic. a couple HP won't be felt ayway. but hearing them is always nice ;) i've ordered an AEM, and i have the AT engine, even if MT, but it'll be a while till i receive it. will let you know it it was, though. from what i understood, it's exactly the MS one, just w/o the waranity... :P |

I talked to a mechanic at my dealership today - he actually talked me out of a cold air intake. He said they call them a hot air intake :). Actually what he said makes sense. The renesis throws off a lot of heat, and most of the CAIs are made of aluminum, which transfers heat better than the stock plastic one. So I think I'm just going to go with the exhaust myself.

and yet, if the thread starter has an AT, then he'd have a flywheel for nothing.

:mdrmed: i have the mazdaspeed CAI and i dont know how much hp gain there is, but i do feel a little more pull. also is a bit louder than before. and about the CAI being a hot air intake i guess you could wrap it like this .

Well the mazdaspeed cold air intake should be around 7PS, not sure how much HP that is.
