highest/average rpm fo AT4 tuned?

Hey guys,

About to snatch a mint 2004 rx8 AT4 for a really really good price. Me being me though, I'd like to rev it a bit higher than 7500.

What can the AT take? I think I read someone doing 8800 rpm's with no issue, but I figure people in this forum are more knowledgeable and can post what they have set.

Not really doing it for more power (it is an AT4 afterall.. and I'm coming from a 2000 jetta Vr6 172hp as the daily), but the sound would be really nice.

My personal opinion, no higher than 8000 with the AP

Hi, how many miles are on this "mint" 8? You said its a really good price.. Mine was $5k with 82k miles. And, it can take as much revving as you give it. (Signature)

It has ~70,000 km's so about ~45k miles.

superhypered 03-28-2011 03:20 AM

hm.. thats rare for an original engine from back then, and with what I've read about the 04 engines.. if you're willing to take a chance, then go for it. 04 was the beginning of the RX8s, so usually the first year model has slight problems.. my car got to the point in it's life that it actually got lemon stickered! i forgot about that... yours should be fine though. take the risk :)

ejeetology 04-27-2011 01:11 PM

got ya beat...'04 28k miles, original engine ;)

superhypered 04-27-2011 01:50 PM

^ your engine will blow up after the engine core warranty expires and I'll be laughing ;)

phrenetiK 04-27-2011 02:04 PM

the engine can still handle 9000 in the 4pt, just dunno about the shitty tranny.

that's 2007 with 6port 13B
i think he's talking abt 2004 4 port 13b, totally different :)

superhypered 04-29-2011 04:11 PM

not to mention in the A/T, its 7,500 because the torque converter just doesnt go that high to 9krpm

Super...please stop adding to mis-information...

45k for an 04 isn't "rare", and he never said it was still on the first engine.

Again, mis-information. You can increase the redline in an A/T to 9,000 RPM and it will actually rev there, so...yeah, the torque converter CAN go that high. Whether or not it's recommended is the debate. The engines are tuned for the factory RPM range, so taking a MT over 9 and an AT over 7.5 is moving it past the range where the ECU is tuned for, and you don't get what you might think you are getting.

so you're going after me for mis information? cool man. thanks for the clarification.

nice !!!! but my 2004 has 22K on it , original engine, tires, paint, the only parts that has been changed were the plugs .

as far as the rev , i do take mines once in a wile till it beeps!! a little over 8000rpm, dont abuse, change oil on a regular, lubricate is the key premix at every tank ,

future plans, Exhaust, intake, maybe a supercharger, might not be a MT but i sure do give the few around here a run for their $$$ :yesnod:

Getting?

I've revved a few out to 10k. Really no point in that.

For an N/A application, there isn't any reason to go past 7200 RPM. There isn't any power up there.

ShellDude 05-15-2011 04:33 PM

@ 45k -- GReddy for about 7k now ... tuned by ^^^ a couple times lol

speed limiter removed and rev set at about 8500 if memory serves correctly.. silly to go that high... with the right compressor wheel you get all you need down low.

I seldomly go beyond 7.5k in any gear.
